Stop what you are doing to filter nitrates and phosphates out or keep them low. Stop with the reef chili. Get your nutrients up to normal levels just by feeding your fish appropriately. Handle algae growth as needed with a properly sized CUC of herbivores as well as by your own manual efforts. 1 Quote Link to comment

Mrs. Limpet
I have a new LFS that has some nice zoas. I just picked up a chaos and sunburst Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
Anyone know what this one is ? I bought it with like 4 heads for 30$ few months back anf its easily the fastest growing ZOA ive ever bought. Im starting to think its a palythoa. But unsure what it is. Also starting to think i should move it further away from the red zoas next to it. It seems almost a little invasive because the heads are so big. Its a goldish color. And under blue leds it glows with golden speckles its really pretty under blue leds. Quote Link to comment

She called them Sexy Peach Galaxy palys. Mine grow like wildfire. Gotta find homes for a bunch. Quote Link to comment

Rifts2Reefs
@Candymancan I believe they go by "Fairy Dust" Palys Got a few small colonies running wild in my tank as well. Definitely a "weed", they grow faster than any other Paly/Zoa, or even GPS that I've had in my tank! Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
Yea mine look like that. This is my rock with zoas. Do you think i should renove this thing to its own seperate rock before it spreads too far ? Right now its still on the glue.plug maybe 1 or 2 polyps are on the rock itself.. but i can still pop 99% of it off i think Edit. Nvm i moved it. 95% was on the coral glue and plug still.. so i had to cut off 3 or 4 polyps on the main rock.. made sure to flush the chunks in toilet.. wash that end of rock in sink and washed my knife and hands in soap after to make sure i dont get paly toxin. I had one before in past and it sucked lol. You can see where it was. And now its got its own fairly decent sized rock. I wont let it grow past the rock its on. I hate weed corals lol Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
Got some new zoa.paly. not sure which they are. Im thinking paly from the size. Theyre called Vampire in Drags i think. The lable had em as just vampire. They actually have alot of zoa/paly i wanted but i liked these the most due to them having alot of blue in them. And ive been looking for ones with lots of blue for awhile. This is a pic of the whole frag plug. I sadly only have 25$ on me. So i asked if they could cut a few polyps off this frag plug. Using snips to cut a frag off the frag lol. I paid 22$ for 3 polyps. Did i rip myself off ? I dunno.. for 45$ i coulda got the whole thing which had like 7 polyps but yea lol. Funny this local store i go to all the time and the manager lady and other lady working there were too afraid to frag this plug.. seriously lol. So i had to do it LOL im surpised they let me. I Cut it perfectly too. All i needed was a sliver with the polyps on it. Anyway is this a vampire in drags ? Is it a zoa or paly ? Are they fast growing ? Did i get a decent deal ? You can see the one above it. I love that one too. Wasnt sure what it was called though. Sorry my galaxy s9+ doesnt take good pics anymore.. I noticed a big update awhile ago gimped alot of s8-s9-s10 cameras for people.. makes me really mad. Quote Link to comment
Rifts2Reefs
@Candymancan definitely look like Vampire in Drag Zoas to me! Got some in my setup as well. I paid $10 for a single polyp which is pretty standard for retail prices (atleast around my parts). My frag now has 10+ heads, which it grew only within a couple of months! The frag above in your picture looks to be a Hawaiin People Eater! Here's a few shots of mine! Vampire in Drag: Hawaiin People Eaters Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
The 2nd ones didnt look exactly like that but close. I might go back tomorrow. I know another one they had was a rainbow infusion. I liked that one as well. Question do you keep your zoas in lowish flow or ? I have like 9 different types and i noticed even if medium flow they close up partially and if i do low flow to where particles in the water move really slowely they open up. So ive kept them on low and theyre all growing. So slow or medium what do you use ? Quote Link to comment

I keep my zoas under medium to high flow, mostly to prevent detritus from building up around the base of the polyps. I also find that they eventually adjust to the current, and really extend their skirts. Pretty cool to see those tentacles waving in the flow! Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
The greenish blueish one in their store is called reef raft palythoa. I tried looking it up and i only found one picture. Called reef raft usa pineapple express palythoa. Lol long name. But here isa picture. Somehow im betting its called something else more commonly. Since i can only find one pic of it online under that name. Not sure if its the one you showed me but it doesnt quite look like those. But then it does with the green mouth.. hard to tell. What do you think ? Is 4 polyps worth 45$ ? They also have these bright ass neon orange zoas ive never seen before.. here isa bad pic but i think theyre fadded orange bam bams.. they want 65$ for this rock.. seems alot to me for a rock full of pests. 1 Quote Link to comment
Candymancan
Man im getting so addicted to zoas.palys. I originally liked acroporas more. Refusing to get zoas.. i have 7-8 different types of acros in my 135, same with LPS i have like 9 different ones. But now im finding myself trying to move things and add a rock or two for zoas.palys lol. I have 14 different colors so far and running out of room lol. I feel like taking my 50+ head of trumpet corals and some montis and moving them away somewhere to free up an entire flat rock i could put like another 10 colors of zoas on.. What do you guys think ? This is the section in my 135 im thinking of moving.. just unsure where in my 135 to put em lol. Right now all my zoas are cramped on these 2 rocks in the 3rd pic. 1 Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
I've got one frag (3 polyps) of butt kisser zoas that won't open. All other zoas in my tank are open. I took a look at it under a magnifying glass and there's algae growing out of one of the polyps - when you look at it it appears as if it's closed up on the algae. I've tried cleaning it off with a soft brush, with a q-tip, and with a peroxide dip brushing it off with those implements. I just can't get it out of its opening and I'm thinking that's the reason they are closed up. The polyps just keep getting smaller and smaller. Any tips on how to remove the hairs of alage out of the one polyp? Quote Link to comment
