windstalker
Greetings All.... I am currently in the process of setting up a Tank. Heres the current plan.... 10 Gallon AGA Standard 15 watt Flourescent Hood for 10 gallon (discussion below) 50 watt heater 2 - rio 5 powerheads 3" aragonite sandbed seeded with a couple pounds ls 10 - 12 lbs lr Lighting discussion and question.... The reason I went with the standard 15 watt flourescent hood is to promote coralline algae growth. My plan is that after 2 or 3 months to upgrade to 2x36 watt pc's. My question concerning this is the 15 watt bulb to use in the beginning. I currently have a 18k bulb. Is this color spectrum ok for coralling algae growth or should I go with a lower color spectrum, like perhaps 10k? Thanx in advance, and please do not hesitate to comment on anything in my plan that seems inappropriate or could be improved. Link to comment
karlas
one main thing that affects corraline alge is good alkalinity and calcium levels. the main thing lighting affects is the color there are many different colors of it. stick with your plan for the lighting you may have good corraline and when u upgrade maby a color change in it Link to comment
Brianc_4
I agree with Karlas, pH and kH are the most important for coraline growth. The coraline tends to be more pink near the most intense lighting and more deep purple where the light is weaker, but it is all good stuff. Link to comment
