Starscream
I've had 4 die on me in two weeks. I've took my time acclimating them, i have other inverts(Snails,Hermits,Anemone crab) that are doing fine, but i just can't keep shrimp. Anyone have a clue why? Link to comment
Whitten
How long has that tank been set up? An have you done any types of readings so that we might beable to figure this mystery out? Link to comment
TiGs
Are you buying the all cleaners shrimp from the same store? If you are try a different one. Before you buy the shrimp inspect it for parasites, look for black spots on the body. If your not doing drip method acclimation give that a try. Link to comment
MillerLite
Whats you salinity like? Does your pH remain fairly stable. In two weeks, how many times have you changed the water? Whats your temp like? Do you have regular temp swings? See if any of your inverts or fish are picking on them. Try and set up a video camera if you cant stick around and watch. May be interesting...especially at night when many of the inverts come out to feed. Are you spot feeding your shrimp at all? Link to comment
SW20Rida
What do you spot feed your shrimps? Link to comment
Starscream
they are dying withing 1 hour of being added, so i haven't fed them yet. I do weekly 10% water changes, salinity is 1.024, temp is 78 at day, 76 at night. Link to comment
HuBu
any large crabs? do you dose iodine? Link to comment
MillerLite
SW20Rida, if the shrimp were around for longer than an hour, it may not come out to feed during feeding time. This combined with the presence of two fish and multiple inverts may make scavenging difficult. So sometimes, I would use a dropper to give him formula 1 or brine shrimp. SOmetimes, I also will feed him by hand. Once he overcomes his shyness, he will come around more and more during feeding. Link to comment
jmt
Find out what the salinity is at the store. A big change in salinity is really hard on shrimps. I learned this the hard way. You should also be drip acclimating your animals. Link to comment
adinsxq
specific gravity. specific gravity. specific gravity. stop saying salinity. are you using any additives? RO(DI) water? you're shooting for how many shrimp in your 10? Link to comment
MillerLite
Hey jmt, good point on the need for the drip acclimation. I too found out the hard way with some sexy shrimp. They didnt like the change in SALINITY at all, despite a 30 minute slow acclimation period. I too would recommend checking the SALINITY of the tank water in the LFS to see how different it is. Also, are you using a refractometer to measure salinity? If not, it may be a good time to purchase one, just to m ake sure your hyrometer is reading correctly. I also agree that you should try to buy a cleaner at a different LFS and I wouldnt get them when they are too small. They may be more sensitive...who knows? Well good luck to you and make sure that you keep us updated on your plight and continue to check the the SALINITY of your tank water. Link to comment
gill
check s.g. of supplier, many stores keep their s.g. low purposely to inhibit protozoans. Link to comment
