The 28 Gallon Itch Video!!!!

Background:

I found this 28 gallon AquaEuro USA All-in-One tank at a friend's garage sale for $35. It was barely used, in nearly new condition.

Initially I was planning to move the entire contents of my NC12 into this tank. But instead, I decided to transfer most of the inhabitants from my 10g macro tank and retire the 10g. After a few months I did end up breaking down my NC12 and transferring some of the inhabitants into this tank.

The tank stand is from a vintage singer sewing machine. We removed the original table top but kept the legs. My husband stained and varnished the new wood top to match the furniture in our den. I think it turned out GREAT :)

The thread name: I'm a huge Marilyn Monroe fan. It's a take on the movie she was in called "The Seven Year Itch" I found it fitting because the reefing habit is an itch that can never be scratched away

This tank had a pretty rough start. I had trouble with the dry rock I had purchased. This was the fake purple painted rock. All Ca and alk would precipitate out of the water and coat the rock and sand. I still have not figured out why this was happening. After 2 months of trying to fix this, I gave up and purchased Live Rock uncured from KP Aquatics (formerly SealifeInc.). The following pictures are of the fake rock I started with initially, but then removed. The final picture is of the uncured Live Rock from KP Aquatics. The difference has been night and day. I'm so pleased with the uncured rock.

I haven't tucked away the wires yet. I'll get there soon :)

I love the rock scape! I know we won't be able to see it in a few months ;)

(Love the name BTW - and I love that you've got the poster right above the tank)

You like vintage too :happydance: We are obsessed over here

THAT'S what it's called....yes, "Real Reef Rock". It's the same rock I have in my macro tank. I LOVE it! I don't know how it will be long term, but so far, it "rocks"

Beautiful :D

Thanks, Paige!!!!!

Thanks, pbj!!!!! The scape turned out pretty well. That's 23 pounds of rock. I really didn't want to go more than that since I want the corals to grow and fill in the empty space at the top. I'm hoping my neon green toadstool will get huge in there and I'm thinking of getting a green nepthea leather.

Thanks on the name too! I've had that poster forever, but in a different spot in the house. I figured behind the tank would be perfect for it :)

Awesome. Tracking this.

Sweet!!!!! Thank you!!!!!

Thanks, Felicia!!!!! I'm pretty excited about it. I was dreading the starting over, but I've gotten past that and now I'm just excited

Thank you!!!!! That's an antique Barrister bookcase. It holds my husband's vintage paperbacks, and a bunch of other vintage things. I like it too :)

--------------------

I think I might add in my new green mushrooms today. I'll be watching the parameters closely, of course. I think these mushrooms could handle a brand new tank ;)

I'm always late to the dance, didn't know you started it already. Gena, this is gonna be another classic!

Instead of being up to your elbows, looks like it up to your armpits!

Awesome! Love what you did for the stand. I love my 28g!

The stand turned out well for this. Living in earthquake country, I made sure (went overboard) and had my husband install two L brackets on the stand. It's now bolted to the wall and isn't going anywhere! Hopefully the tank won't slide!!!!!

HAHAHA Soon it'll be a 40B! :P

Eeek! Maybe!!!!! Naw....not unless I find one cheap at a garage sale...like this happy accident.

Thanks, Nathan!!!!!!! It's going to be a bigger version of my 10g macro tank

I'm going to have plants out the wazoo before too long

I've decided I'm not going to add my kenya tree to this tank. No more kenyas for me :( I still like them, but I don't want to deal with their crazy spreading abilities!!!!!! I just tear them out of my NC12 but they do grow back if you don't get every speck of flesh. They are bullet proof!!!!!!

So..no SPS and no crazy invasive species like kenya, xenia, or gsp. I will allow for the blue cloves...but I may kick myself later on that one. They are so pretty though, so who cares
