farkwar
I wonder if hydrogen peroxide has been used as a dip, if so with success or failure. Link to comment
ZephNYC
I wonder if hydrogen peroxide has been used as a dip, if so with success or failure. We contemplated trying it when we had a sick Gigas but didnt want to risk it on a rare item. I will try it in the future on a cheaper clam. Link to comment
farkwar
Just a quick skim of scholarly sources. PM is caused by Perkinsus olseny, and was transported into the US somewhere around 2008 from a VietNamese clam exporter. Perkinsus sp is/are a protist. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protist Paramomycin is used as an antiprotist "antibiotic". Its an aminoglcoside. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aminoglycoside Metronidasole is usually given for amoeba infections, I mention this because its fairly common. http://www.drugs.com/health-guide/gastrointestinal-amebiasis.html Randy Holmes Farley is a well known reefer/writer. He also is a chemist and co-inventor of Renagel. Even if you cant get any antibiotics to test on sick clams, someone called you doc so you may; im sure an email to telephone call might get you a small experimental supply, maybe. Link to comment

We have used Metro on clams many times, with very poor results. It almost always strips the clam of all color and vitality and it usually did not recover. Paramomycin sounds interesting and to my knowledge has never been tried. I have no problem obtaining it. THanks for that. Good luck with the FW dip. I just got my Dr Mac clam at macna and its opening more and more everyday. You weren't kidding they look fantastic. They are beauties indeed! Good luck with yours. Link to comment

O-man21
Can I get an opinion on this? Pictures were taken this morning, after the lights had been out for about 8 hours, so they are closed for the night, I just shined a light on them. The blue one is looking good, but there are a couple places on the gold one I am concerned about. Link to comment
ZephNYC
They look good to me. Have you had problems with PM in this tank before? Link to comment
O-man21
No I haven't, but these are the first two clams in the tank. They were only added about 5 days ago so I'm just being anal about them getting acclimated and opening up well. Link to comment

reefingrob
I had and lost 47 large clams from a 210 gal reef. I am looking forward to explaining my new systems and ideas. Basically it involves 2 tanks that share a common sump. One contains an insane amount of fish, and the other no fish at all...just clams. This way they benefit from the pollution, but dont get bothered by the fish. There are few things that bother a clam more than a tank full of big tangs. about 15 years ago i planned a set up like that. i love big angels and triggers but i also love clams, lps corals and zoanthids.
