lanamarks
I work at a glass place and they let me have three 14" x14" 1/4 " thick pieces of clear tempered glass that were just laying around. I was going to use them to make a nano tank. However I was going to use colored acrlyic for the base and back of the tank. Is this plausible and what is the best way to assemble/attach? Thanks. Also I'd like some feedback on the setup that I'd like to build: 14 x 14 cube tank 150 W MH AC500 Refugium Surface Skimmer Tiny aquaglobe powerhead 50 W heater 2 small fans with heat sensors Air driven autotop off with float switch Link to comment
Proost
Good question! I was thinking about something similar myself except using epoxy covered wood for the bottom and back. My question to you is why you want to use the acrylic at all. Ease of drilling maybe? Around here 1/4"thick glass is much cheaper than acrylic. Especially if you work at a glass shop:) I am no expert, but what about a combo of epoxy and silicone? I used epoxy to bond a seam on a perpetually leaky tank. Then I sealed it on the inside with silicone and it has held ever since. HTH Matt Link to comment
Perpetual98
Given the huge debate whether or not to mix materials in a sump for dividers, I'm not sure that you're going to want to mix them on a tank. Maybe if you get the right adhesive it would work. Go to www.garf.org and see that they recommend for glues. Link to comment
lanamarks
The reason I ask is even though I work at a glass plant they only do large orders. These three pieces were just samples that were going to be trashed so I took them. It would be almost impossible to get them to cut me one tiny piece as they run large quantities only. Acrylic is relatively easy to get so I thought maybe I could combine. Is this a definite BAD idea or has no one tried it? Thanks. Link to comment
