seabass
Maybe I need to start a new thread, "200 gallons on the floor". At least I can laugh about it now. Surprisingly, not much got ruined. Threw out some test kit reagent packets. 1 Quote Link to comment

Hope you continue to see improvement. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
TBH, the Brute held about 40 gallons, the storage container wasn't completely full when I started, and I shut it off when it was still half full. But I wouldn't want to do that again. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
The hyposalinity treatment worked (the fish are free of ich), and I've been sloooowly raising the SG back up by topping off with saltwater. However, I haven't been doing water changes and the tank was getting pretty dirty, and was even developing cyano. So this weekend I dosed Chemiclean. And yesterday, I vacuumed out the sand and scrubbed the rocks. Today, I cleaned the glass and replaced the sand. Over the last two days I've changed out 20% of the water, and have raised the specific gravity of this tank to 1.021. The plan is to get the specific gravity up some more so I can reintroduce the inverts. I'm also going to transfer some of the macroalgae that I have in my 20L. Quote Link to comment

seabass
I obviously added a few macros from my 20L. 4 1 Quote Link to comment

seabass
Thanks Weetie! The angelfish seems to like it too. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
Oh yeah, I forgot to post my test results (just prior to adding the macroalgae): 0ppb phosphorus (Hanna ULR Phosphorus Checker) 2.5ppm nitrate (Salifert Nitrate) It's been awhile since I've tested, and I'm a little bummed about the lack of nutrients. I want to add some phyto; but unfortunately, my phyto culture appears to be still crashing. Quote Link to comment
seabass
Unfortunately, my angelfish got lockjaw and I had to euthanize her. Anyway, it's been awhile since I posted about this tank. Here are some pics that I took today. Finally getting some coralline algae. I feel like this tank is finally maturing. I haven't cleaned my sump in, IDK, maybe a year or so. Those are sponges growing on the bottom. Here's a new addition. It's cute, but the clownfish prefer the other nem. I probably scraped the acrylic a month ago. Here's a little pod enjoying the mess. Trochus and bumble bee. Bi-color blenny's favorite hangout. Here's the new BTA that the clownfish hang out in. The male sleeps here, but the female prefers the corner where they used to sleep together. Fighting conch (and a little cyano). Here's a blurry pic inside the overflow. There was some hair algae growing back there; but instead of cleaning it out, I just put added an Astrea snail. It's only been a couple of days but it has put a pretty big dent in it. Again, in the overflow, I'm seeing some significant coralline algae growing. FTS: 06/06/18 2 Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
Oh no. Sorry about your angel. She was a beautiful fish. Will you get another? The tank is looking great! Did you introduce the corraline into the tank or did it come in on something? What’s your long term plan for the tank? Are your RFA’s in the 20L? 1 Quote Link to comment

IDK, maybe someday. I've also considered a pair of Banggai cardinalfish. I'm in no real hurry. 11 hours ago, SeaFurn said: The tank is looking great! Did you introduce the corraline into the tank or did it come in on something? Thanks! It's pretty plain, but I feel that it's finally maturing. I've had some snails with coralline on them, as well as some LR rubble (w/ coralline) that I introduced. However, I was reading a thread about coralline in a bottle and decided, what the heck, it doesn't look dangerous or anything; so I gave it a try: https://www.amazon.com/Coralline-Nitrifying-Bacteria-Saltwater-Aquariums/dp/B0782W75RD/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1528331664&sr=8-1&keywords=coralline I'm not 100% sure that it worked, but I think that it did. I added some to my 40 gallon Caribbean tank too, but haven't seen the same results. 11 hours ago, SeaFurn said: What’s your long term plan for the tank? Short term - I have three mini carpet anemones in my Caribbean tank. They don't belong there, so I'm going to move them here. I like two of them, but I guess I'll move all three. Also, I'm going to transfer my cookie jar corals into this tank (Blastos, Duncans, and GSP). Finally, I'm purchased some snails from Aquarium Depot and got some free zoanthids that will probably end up here to. Long term - I'd like to add maybe three more fish. Then I plan on adding more corals (softies and LPS, but also a few SPS). It might be awhile before I do this. I really want to have more coralline before I go crazy getting more coral. 11 hours ago, SeaFurn said: Are your RFA’s in the 20L? SeaFurn
Well, with a 100 gallon tank you’ve got plenty of options as far as fish choice goes! Thanks for the update. It will be neat to see this progress towards your vision. Coralline will really take off if alk levels are higher, right? Not that you’re in a hurry. 1 Quote Link to comment
seabass
The snails have cleared the accessible hair algae in the overflow. You can see the 200 gallon water storage container on the right. Um... there's still something in your teeth. The astrea does make its way up there on occasion. Surprisingly, I discovered that they also eat coralline. I didn't know they did that. 3 Quote Link to comment
WV Reefer
What were the symptoms or issues leading up to the angelfish death? Or did the mouth just lock up one day? Im beginning to suspect that mine has issues on and off with her mouth and that is why I had to give her the hiemlich maneuver. Quote Link to comment
seabass
Yeah, it just locked. Then she couldn't eat and eventually seemed to have problems breathing. She began to swim nonstop, even at night. I could see that she was in distress, so I don't think I had a choice. It's a hard thing to have to do. 1 1 Quote Link to comment

That’s terrible! 😞 Mine seems fine one minute but locked up the next. She still eats but I can tell when she’s having issues because she just swims around with no purpose. A few times I caught her bobbing on the surface for air and gave her a squeeze. I thought she was choking but it’s become clear that it’s an entire mouth issue. 2 Quote Link to comment
seabass
I know, it's gut-wrenching. I miss her, but I can finally look at my tank without cringing. 1 Quote Link to comment

seabass
I should change the title to hundreds of gallons on the floor. We got over 7" of rain and water was coming up through the basement floor, as well as up over the sump. I had unplugged everything (as my tanks are in the basement). I suppose there was an inch of water covering the floor. The rain let up for a bit which allowed the sump to finally empty. But it started raining again and the sump is filling up again. I have minimal flow restored to my tanks, but most everything is still unplugged. I'm working to shop vac up the water now. I had to tear up the floating vinyl floor. Funny, 'cause it was actually floating as the water was coming up from under it. I think my tanks will be alright (so long as we don't lose power). Anyway, back to vacuuming up the water. I hope I don't have to redo the drywall. Just thought I'd take a break and vent a little. 1 3 Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
What???? Do you have cracks in the basement floor? Has that ever happened before? 😮😡 Fingers crossed the power stays on! Quote Link to comment
seabass
Thanks! So no power outage and our basement sump pump is keeping up now. The basement flooded once before during a major flood. The local flooding this time was incredible. One guy was even swept away and died. All in all, we were pretty lucky. Fishies are doing fine. I still haven't plugged everything thing in yet. I was exhausted when I went to bed. I haven't checked the drywall, tank stands and anything that might have gotten wet. I stayed up to 3am shop vaccing the floor. No standing water was visible when I went to sleep. Quote Link to comment
SeaFurn
Good to hear. Hopefully no wet drywall. Crank up a fan and dehumidifier if you have one. Quote Link to comment
seabass
With the tanks down there, the dehumidifier runs constantly during the summer. Fans are in place; and everything is basically dry. The "drywall" seems dry, but I'm a little worried that it isn't wet behind the paint (as water likes to wick up from the floor). That's such a big job redoing the drywall, that I'm tempted to leave it, even though I really want to cut away the lower 2 feet. I just spent all morning helping my next door neighbors. They are a nice young couple with a toddler, and their sump wasn't running. When I checked it out, there were still two inches of water down stairs. There's no question that they will be replacing their drywall. I managed to get their sump pump running and sucked up more than a 100 gallons of water. 1 2 Quote Link to comment
seabass
I've been admiring @WV Reefer's Monti cap for awhile now, and have been thinking about adding one to this tank. Anyway, like everything in this tank build, I've been dragging my feet about doing much of anything. Do you realize that I started setting up this tank more than 5 years ago. I normally don't check the classified forums, but I was just checking some recent posts and came across @HarryPotter's SPS (CLEAR MY RACKS!) Sale. Knowing Harry's reputation, I was intrigued. For those interested in Acros, he has a beautiful red millipora. Anyway, his post is going to have a significant impact on this tank, as I decided to make this tank focus on Montipora (a more forgiving SPS than Acropora). Harry is setting me up right with: Encrusting Sunset Montipora sp. Montipora digitata Green Montipora capricornis (Monti cap) Forest Fire Montipora digitata Montipora undata Red Montipora capricornis (Monti cap) Christmas Montipora capricornis (Monti cap) I should be getting these corals on Tuesday. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks Harry! Hopefully I'll have a little time to prepare the tank for the new additions. It shouldn't take a lot, just a bit of cleanup. I'm also planning on moving the mini carpet anemones to this tank (down low); they seem to be fine hanging out down by the sand. I might even move a few zoanthids over too. 6 Quote Link to comment
