Mystery Birdsnest

Recommended Posts

Thought it was a Ponape birdsnest, but looking at Ponape's online, im not so sure. It had long slender branches with a yellow/green base with bright pink polyps. Looks more like the Hystrix?

looks like a purple polyp birdsnest...esp if it has a pinkish green base...hystrix is just pink w/ no green and has pink polyps

I thought Hystrix was a species, not a brand name and therefore would not have color specific ways to determine.

Coloration is a terrible way to ID species of coral.

+1. So is the thickness/style of branching, since that is rather relative to flow. Its a birdsnest :) Who cares beyond that?
