6-7 is pretty good for growth. You could possibly run into algae issues with a longer light cycle. Algae on the other hand thrives in light.

I have heard of people keeping their lights on anywhere from 6 to 12 hours, but most people hang around 6-8. I have also heard that corals tend to grow more during the dark and do better with longer dark periods <- cant cite this, but I definitely remember reading it somewhere. Corals are just part of the whole picture, though, too much light can cause algea problems and possibly heat problems.

I personally run mine 8 hours a day. I have a 70w MH over 12 gal full of mushrooms, zoas, ricordia, and a few others. Corals grow fast, and algea growth is slow and managable.
