Ok, just brought a blue Tort home, and it appears that every single tip was rubbed off by the plastic container (grabbed it from a local and rushed home. Very large chunk of porites thrown in.) Aside from the whole "that might have been a bad idea" thing, dip in coral rx? Freshwater? I don't want it to RTN over night, that would be horrible.

Sorry, you're one of the few people I'll turn to for advice. Buy a plate, btw.

Hey Psychosis, nice grab on the blue tort! I'm still relatively new to SPS so I can't chime in. For SPS advice Rehype seems like a master and is one of the nicest people on NR. He always answered any questions I had when I PMed him. But if your tank is doing well and params are in check I see no reason for it to go downhill.

And I never was a plate fan until that thread you started. It made me keep an eye out for a killer one! Let me know when you spy a killer red plate. :)

You should always dip before the coral enters the tank anyways. So do that and just hope for the best. Blue tort, mmmm.

I dip for pests, not so much for the coral. Generally just a quick second in diluted H202 makes critters fly off, kills most pest algae, etc. I gave it an hour and checked again, I'm actually getting polyp extension from the tips that where rubbed bare. Very cool. It's actually green/pink with blue polyps and kind of a blue hue throughout. 3" piece for $20? Sold.

I'm telling you buddy, start with a pinwheel and then see how long it takes before you buy another. I actually love most plates I see, even what most would consider drab. I can't wait to have a 26"x36" sand bed to play with.

That is not good at all and should be discouraged indeed. Sounds like those ads on TV for items that never look like what you see in the ads when you get the product. Unfortunate but it seems to happen a lot ...

Albert

Holy cow! I like the first acanthophyllia the best. AquaSD right? Pretty expensive!

I like their stuff generally. About half my orders though I get something that doesn't quite look like how it does in the photos. They sometimes do some major color photoshopping.

Nice shots indeed but are the colors somewhat modified with the camera you are using ... some specimens look a little differently colored than they normally are, or I am wrong here ?

Modified? How so? The only one that isn't spot on with coloring were the pink ones, the ones I said I wish I could get their orange in. Other than that it's all about lighting. Over the frag tank I run a kessil 15k, but the LEDs are difficult for my camera to take pictures properly so I run my old T5's over them and it allows me to take great pictures. No shopping hurr. Hurr hurr hurr.

Yessir, all of the photos are aquasd! And I agree with you. I've ordered from them twice and had nothing but complaints. I'm too afraid to put down big money and get something different then my expectations. Shipping charges are ridiculous too since we're in CA! The search for my acan continues!

I've been wanting one of their mushrooms they sell on eBay. The pink frog mushroom. These things are tiny and selling for $50ish plus!!!!! And shipping is outrageous for us in California. I'm waiting until we take a trip down to San Diego so I can check them out in person. I can see what things really look like and not have to pay their outrageous shipping fee. $40 is ok if it's going out of state, but I would think in state should get a shipping break!!!!!! I have heard a lot of negative things about them too, so an in person purchase is the only way I'll take a chance with them :)

$50 shipping for in state? Cray cray I say! There's no way it should cost that much. And PM sent on the pink froggies. :)

Shipping in state is $40. The mushrooms themselves were going for $50++++ at auction, and they were tiny little things!!!!!!! Very crazy!!!!!

Thanks again for the link ;)

Oh, you're talking about the ebay shipping costs. I was talking about the online site, which is $50 and then they tax us too. Not fun.

Np, go get 'em!

I want to badly, but they would have to sit in my macro tank temporarily (till the 28g cycles) and I don't know if I have room in there!!!! At least I know there is another source for those mushrooms, and at an acceptable price!!!!!!! Oh....how I wish my tank was cycled already

Shrooms will do fine in any tank. I say go for it, it's hard to come by good deals on corals. Mine's cycling now as well. Can't wait to start her up!

So I have a 12" RBTA in another tank that wasn't doing to hot, so I moved it over to my nano where I know everything is doing great. It's doing much better now but being a 12" RBTA has consequences... So almost all of my frags are in my frag tank now. It's not too bad, just a barren nanocube with a monster RBTA. And the plus side was I was able to take some nicer pics.

CAR (Candy Apple Red)

Nightmares:

Flaming Lotus:

And now for some RBTA love. It's got this neon green base that I adore.

Let me know how much you're selling your sunny d's and yumas... The sunny d's are attached to a rock not disk right? :)

Beautiful palys!!!!!! I think the CARs are my favorite :)

I went back to look at those mushrooms again, on the link you gave me, and they were sold  Serves me right for dragging my feet. I'll keep watching their site though.

Do your palys ever shed? My magicians are giving me fits right now. They look terrible and I have no idea why. I know I'm going to lose most of the heads on it. I should selvedge a few though. I wish I knew what the skin shedding meant. Any ideas?

NFS! :) And fooled you. It's a broken frug plug that's well encrusted.

I love CARs as well. One of my favorites. I saw it sold this morning and was hoping it was you but guess not. The ahedding skin is not a good sign. It's either a layer of mucus or it's the skin dissolving. Are your water params fine?

Price might be a bit high for you though..

There are so many choices that it seems no one as come forward and said this .... one is the Best ... but then I guess there are so many factors involved (money being one for sure) that it may be hard to pick the best system in the all-in-ones and in the ones that are made up of components.

Oh well that is what our hobby is all about ... choices and difficult decisions sometimes :)

I heard it's nice, but it's overly pricey. Like ELOS range or maybe higher.

They'll probably get more of those in, I hope!!!!!! Thanks for turning me onto that site, regardless :)

Water params are spot on. I think I know what the problem is. I had to do a few peroxide dips on them to remove bryopsis. I really think it was just too much for them. I even did some full strength dipping. Lesson learned! I don't think I'll lose every single polyp, so that's good. I'll just have to grow them out again. They grow pretty fast for me.
