Flatworm looking thing on fish.

This is a friend's fish. One day it was below the lateral line and the next it was above. You can see the mark it left from the day before.

Looks to be something similar on the angler?

I couldn't find an example of one that big and that sparse.

 

Can't see them elsewhere in the tank, as far as I know.

can you try and use a pipette to suck it off the fish? if so slap it on a microscope slide and take a peak at it. I wish I could be more help right now but it is sparse and I can't really tell much from the pictures. at lunch time i'll check in my truck to see if I have my Noga book with me or not, let you know if I can find anything.

It's not my fish, so I don't have access to it. And thank you, but I went from cover to cover with Noga last night.

 

I know these are old fishes, the rabbit more than the angler. But I'll find out what was added last and where it came from. Sometimes locale can be a hint.

 

I'll also see if I can get my hands on one, hubby has the best microscopes in town.
