new to saltwater fish

I am going to set up a 10 gallon tank in a week or so, with some live rock and some coral. I am probably going to put 2-3 fish in there w a cleaning shrimp.

 

What fish would you recommend me to get?

of course you planning on waiting a while for the fish right?

 

I would shy away from 3 in a 10 gallon. remember after all the sand and rock you probally only have a 7 gallon tank.

 

I dont kow what kind of fish you liek but you could probally do:

 

a pair of treu percs

clown and some small goby

1 dottyback

1 maybe 2 firefish

1 firefish and a goby

1 6 line wrasse

First of all, you will want some other mobile inverts for a cleaning crew. Things like hermits, snails, etc.

 

Three fish is going to be too much for a ten gallon unless they are very, very small. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not one of those people who flame people for adding too many fish. But a 10 gallon will only have maybe 7 gallons once you put in a proper amount of live rock and sand. So you would end up having to do water changes too frequently (at least for my tastes.)

 

Two small fish would be fine though. Maybe a small clown and a gamma. There's really lots of options. Firefish are cool too and pretty cheap. Or perhaps a bottom dweller that plays in the sand all day.

 

Just pick your fish based on tank size. Don't try to put a tang or any other big fish in there unless you are prepared to swap him out every few months for a smaller one. And even then you will still get yelled at by lots of people Oh, and whatever you do, don't put a mandarin goby in there or someone from this forum will come and beat you up (I know from experience people get mad about that.)

I recommend that you get a good book and learn about various fishe's size, compatability and tank requirements. Here are a few suggestions:

 

a pair of percs

1 dottyback and a coral banded shrimp

a damsel, a perc and a clown goby

firefish and royal gramma

1 striated angler
