Its just....no one posts it! Besides your tank was amazing, I need some inspiration for my own 36x24 footprint tank 🙂 thanks man. It had a good run from 2012-2013. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Quote Link to comment
--chris--
So where are you at with reef'ing at this moment? Going easy, taking a break? 1 Quote Link to comment

TheKleinReef
If anyone can help me equalize the clocks on apex, and make the graphs show up I’ll give you $100. Im NEVER getting a Neptune apex again. 2 Quote Link to comment
ninjamyst
my biggest regret is getting an Apex and their DOS 1 Quote Link to comment
picoreef78
Same here. Only two pumps, expensive and my Apex controller suddenly crashed. Againts my better judgment bought a replacement controller for 200 dollars. I have not been using the system fully for 2 years now. But I am going on an extended trip and need to get some dosing and automatic feeding going. Quote Link to comment
TheKleinReef
welp, it's been a while. tbh i'm surprised I even logged in. I changed out the sand last year, and that was a huge mistake. Most of it fused into huge chunks of sand and I have no idea why. I'm also struggling with this nasty fuzzy green algae that only grows on the sand and won't go away no matter what. I spent 2 hours siphoning it out, and i'm sure it'll al be back before I leave on Friday. regardless. here's a pic. hard to believe this tank ever looked good. it's cursed now. 11/25/19 by roger klein, on Flickr 4 Quote Link to comment

Long story short, you may just have some major nutrient sink somewhere in the system that is fueling that algae. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'd hate to remove the sandbed again, cause that's what I did last year, thinking that would help. I am going to do a major cleanup of the sump. Maybe i need to clean up the back chamber of my overflow. never even thought of that. thanks. 1 Quote Link to comment
ninjamyst
I have green cyano that comes back every morning after I clean the sand the night before. It's sooooo annoying. I got some Dr. Tim's Refresh and Waste Away coming to try and knock it back. Your yellow tang is as chubby as ever! If you need corals, let me know. I am literally throwing zoas away.... 1 Quote Link to comment

TheKleinReef
Did a nasty overhaul. Siphoned out a lot of algae. Siphoned out probably two inches of s—- from the overflow chamber. (Got a thousand needles from a bristle worm lodged in my finger). Cleaned up the fuge. Soaked every pump in vinegar. Cleaned out the sump. Cable management. hopefully this gets it back on track. I have some sps that are doing fine but man that algae is rough. 2 Quote Link to comment
teenyreef
I siphon out the back chambers about every third water change, it seems to help a lot. Do you ever clean the sand with a siphon? I can't really see the algae in the FTS, for what it's worth. 2 Quote Link to comment

Do you ever clean the sand with a siphon? I can't really see the algae in the FTS, for what it's worth. That's because I siphoned out a lot of it. The sand has been iffy. A lot of it has fused into huge clumps that are nearly impossible to break without a hammer. The areas that haven't fused together have been siphoned out regularly though. I think the 2" of sediment in the back chamber was a huge nutrient sink. Thinking back, I don't think I've ever cleaned it out. I also have a lot of pics sitting on my dslr, but i've been too lazy to edit and post them... 😛 2 Quote Link to comment

TheKleinReef
Update from the parents say the algae is slowly fading away. Looks like the big clean out was just what the tank needed. PS. Follow my future build thread cause my tile just got done and my equipment list is being finalized!!!! Gemme that advice pls. 1 Quote Link to comment
TheKleinReef
Since adding the 30g refugium I think the skimmer has been under performing. Parents picked up the skimz 167 DC model rated for A high bioload 120G. Hopefully this helps. I may end up grabbing this skimmer for my 75 setup. Quote Link to comment
