duganderson
What are the things that are about 1 inch long white/clear like threads that are all over the live rock (50 or more threads). The owner of the tank (not me) said they swim around away from the rock at night. Are these some type of sea star? Are these healthy or unhealthy for a tank? Thanks Link to comment

duganderson
pic would help, sounds like a spaghetti worm. Sorry, I don't have photos. The owner thought they were some type of star but it was hard to see if the tentacles were really all atached to the base of a star. Link to comment
johnmaloney
sea stars dont swim, (well you wouldn't have one that did based on your description), so it is unl;ikely they are. Maybe a "pod" of some sort if they swim, but the description sounds like hydroids Link to comment
kgoldy
You might be talking about the mucous trap that vermatid snails use to collect food. Check the picture here Link to comment
duganderson
Thanks for the photos. I don't think its any of those. The arms are longer and the 'body' is not really visable like those. Regardless of what it is exactly, is it likely to be a pest or a problem OR is it likely harmless or helpful. Link to comment
johnmaloney
You will have to figure out what it is to determine that, could be a number of things, not all bad. Link to comment
