Meloco14
Having a tank in a bedroom is not a problem as long as you do some initial planning. I don't understand your first question, when you turn on/off what? Temperature in most tanks tends to vary slightly throughout the day and night. As long as it's not a huge difference it won't matter much. Tank size also contributes to temp. Bigger tanks will have less fluctuation, because of the high heat capacity of water. Salt creep is a natural occurence with any tank, regardless of location. Salt does not actually evaporate, the water evaporates and leaves the salt behind. This is a problem when water splashes out onto the sides of the tank or furniture the tank is on. As the water evaporates it will leave salt behind. This can over time be damaging to fine woods, so either put the tank on a tank stand, or if you're placing it onto furniture first put down some type of impermeable sheet, like plastic. If you leave it topless, this will speed up evaporation. There also may be a little more salt creep as a result of more water splashing out of the tank. But it won't really be a problem. Just clean the stand/furniture the tank is on or around regularly. The only other things you want to consider is placing the tank away from windows, and out of direct sunlight. Also, whatever skimmer and other pumps you use, make sure they are nice and quiet. Tanks can be surprisingly noisy in the middle of the night when you have to be up early the next morning Link to comment

Meloco14
Usually using a/c when its hot out or a heater when its cold out is beneficial. Assuming you use it to regulate and maintain a fairly constant temperature in your home, this will help maintain the tank temperature. Link to comment
Chyendra
I have all my tanks in my bedroom (4 includeing my nano) and I've never had any issues. The sound of running water and humming air pumps is really soothing, and i'm not sure I could sleep with out it now. Link to comment
theclearblue
My tank is in my bedroom, my main problem is with the overhead lights. I changed the light cycle in my tank to limit the amount of stress that would be caused by turning on/off the lights in a dark room. Link to comment
reefsrule
My tank is in my sister's bedroom temporaily. When it's in my room, my problem is heat because I like to keep my room temp like the tropics because of my iguana. But your situation looks normal and shound be fine. Link to comment
cerickson
Yep, same ere. I keep my tank in my bedroom.. I love it there.. like Chyendra said, the sounds of the tank are quite soothing, except I have some pistol shrimp and at night it sometimes sounds like the shootout at the OK coral(e) no pun intended Link to comment
myelin
I thought about it, but I didn't want to hear the filter all night long, and it would make my room hot in the summer. I'm in Texas. Link to comment

AReeferIsExpensive
my tank is next to my bed. When i cant sleep i watch it under actinics, and i love the soothing sound of the skimmer and water trickling from the filter. the downsides are me ruining the finish on myt new dresser from saltwater drying on it, and b4 i had an AC unit, it would get humid in my room bc of the water Link to comment
KRenee
JoJo, Your salt will not evaporate, only your water will. Link to comment

Von digity
I heard it is bad luck to keep tanks in your bedroom, must be an asian thing. The only problem I could ever see with keeping a tank in your bedroom, is if it was a big tank, then you'd get some humidity issues in such a small space of air. Or noise, noise sucks when your trying to sleep. Link to comment
MakoMan36
it not bad luck ,it'll make you sick from smelling those water that evap around your room :cough:cough: i mean if its pure water than it'll be good but fish tank water are bad :cough:cough:: Link to comment

I guess doing a water change every week and running some carbon helps with order. Link to comment
ReeferMonkey
My tank ( 7g MB ) is in my bedroom. Even with the surface skimmer the noise is minimal. My heater keeps my temp from fluctuating. No humidity issues. Link to comment
matt the fiddler
imsuperjp put the skimmer on a timer.. so it comes on after you get up.. or like in 30 min intervals during the night.. but not on when you are going to sleep Link to comment
OxInYourBox
I have 4 of my tanks in my room. Like Chyendra and Absolut they along with my PC's help me sleep. I only hear one and it's the Remora on my 29G as well as my two computers which are a nice hum. The remora isn't loud or annoying unless the water level changes. The good thing about having the tanks in my room is if something goes wrong I can hear the change in flow and I have woken up to see a powerhead fallen or one of the tanks low on water.
