ry05coupe
Sold as a Tiger blenny which is what I was looking for, but this isn't it. Looks to be in the same family though so. Any ideas? The store also gets two spot blennies in every so often, and I thought it coulda been one in it's night time "camo" but the color has remained the same over the past two days. Link to comment
RayWhisperer
Bamp? WTF is that? You mean Bump? Anyway, My best guess, and that's pretty damn good, would be Ecsenius yaeyamaensis. I don't know of a common name. Here's a Japanese webpage with it's pic. http://www.hycfw.com/Knowledge/knows/no14/...5/25/92768.html I think they come out of the Philippines. Link to comment
Amphiprion1
It is one of the Ecsenius species. Exactly which one, I'm not sure. There are a lot of variants appearing all the time--some of which may be undescribed altogether. I saw several species that came close, but had some sort of difference (not big, but substantial enough) between yours and the typed individuals for each given species. Somebody will likely narrow it down further for you, though. Edit: Bamp? WTF is that? You mean Bump? Anyway, My best guess, and that's pretty damn good, would be Ecsenius yaeyamaensis. I don't know of a common name. Here's a Japanese webpage with it's pic. http://www.hycfw.com/Knowledge/knows/no14/...5/25/92768.html I think they come out of the Philippines. That was the main one I considered, too, but I'm not familiar enough with the color and pattern variants of this species to be sure. Link to comment
ry05coupe
That looks pretty dead on Ray, thanks! I figured it was in the ecsenius family so I went ahead and bought it. Thanks for the help guys. Link to comment
RayWhisperer
Shoulda waited on a Tiger, IMO. Those and Tailspots are the best looking of all the Ecsenius species, IMO. Either way, nice fish. Actually, yaeyamaensis aren't too common, from what I know. You hardly ever see them in shops, or even online for that matter. I think Divers Den had on a few months back. Link to comment
ry05coupe
There is no one around here or in Louisville that could get a true tiger for me or I would have gone that route. I like this guy a lot though, and the fact that he's pretty rare just adds to it. I do think that tigers are cooler though. Link to comment
