gabe3eb
Thanks for stopping by my thread. Just down the road from you (we have boxers, not pitbulls ha). This tank is going to be really sweet though man. My next tank in probably 6-8 months will be around this size, maybe a little bigger. I haven't heard a lot of negative stuff about Mr Aqua though - not to rule them out completely at least. I really like their 36x18x18 48 gallon tank for $400 shipped. Just curious to see what your reasoning was. Cheers! Link to comment

Thanks for the kind words, hoping to get this build underway very soon. I don't have anything against Mr. Aqua in particular. I think for the money they look like great tanks. I'd just heard of some [minor] issues regarding seams/joins. The 33g was actually the first rimless I looked at recently. The more I thought about it though, the more I wanted a little higher quality project. That's what pushed me towards ADA and now the custom CAD Lights route. I decided that the CAD would work well for the center-piece look I was after. And it's made in the USA, unlike the other tanks I was considering. FWIW. Link to comment
siwelk
Progress Update For those of you following along here's a brief recap of the last few weeks. I realize in this hobby, progress is paramount, so here's what's up. Tried to place an order with ADGshop nearly a month ago to no avail.Communication was OK, but order was never fulfilled. Business FAIL Moved on to other options, notably CAD Lights through a local dealer. Oceans Apart actually DID hook it up. I placed a deposit on a custom Artisan. Lead time on the Artisan is about 4 weeks +/- Christmas. So there you have it. TANK = ORDERED My custom dimensions were based off of their recently discontinued 40g Artisan. To get mine, I simply chopped 10" off of the 40g length and added 4" to the depth/width. I ordered the tank in 3/8"(10mm) thickness with 3 sides Starphire (2 long, 1 short). Total Cost: $600 shipped -----> Updated $_$ Link to comment
siwelk
Fast approaching the end of the conceputal stage. A quick rendering of the CAD on order. [26"x20"x16"] Link to comment
ptboy6
looks good. What size piping/bulkhead are you planing to use? return pump? Link to comment
siwelk
looks good. What size piping/bulkhead are you planing to use? return pump? Looking @ 1x 1.5" bulkhead or possibly 2x 1" bulkheads. Basically the 700/1500gph GH style overflow. Toothless. I'm looking at the Tunze Silence/Sicce Silent 3.0 for return. I'm trying to shoot for ~500gph through the sump (10x). Link to comment
ptboy6
Are you getting a mp10wes for flow as well? I think that the 2 bulkheads are going to be safer due to if one gets clogged. Right? I've never plumbed a tank before. I'm gathering ideas for my build too and yours' is very similar to what I have in mind. Link to comment

I'm a little apprehensive going with a single bulkhead drain. My last build was a Herbie-style, with dual bulkheads. I see some people around here with just the single drain though. I'm not sure if that's something that I'll be willing to do, personally. An additional bulkhead would help me sleep, but make a 4th hole in my back pane. Aesthetically the single bulkhead would look better, but duals give me reassurance. I haven't made my mind up on that one yet. Link to comment

I have the same doubt on my project, I don't wanna go work and get back home with an flood tank and a dry sump with equipements getting burned inside. I know sometimes I get paranoid, but as I heard somewhere: "if safety is first, you last " This is what I plan on doing for my overflow: overflow por lfnieder, no Flickr Link to comment

I like the added POM from the dual 1.5" GH 1500gph kit but I don't need quite that much flow. I might see if glazer can fashion me up a dual 1" version for my tank instead. Link to comment
siwelk
Just talked to Jim @ Oceans Apart. He's facilitating my order with CAD Lights. Funny how inserting a middle-man lowers the price. Anyway, just got a confirmation back from Eddie. I added the black backing that they use on the Artisan series. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it was worth an extra $30. Oh well, at least there's one thing I don't have to paint... Should be ready to ship after January 1. Awesome. Link to comment

siwelk
I'm getting more curious as to what they use for their backing. The guy at Oceans Apart asked if I wanted it if it cost over $50. I told him if it was more than $30 I'd just paint it with Krylon. Any Artisan lurkers wanna chime in? Link to comment

siwelk
The ESV B-Ionic SS was on backorder. It's supposed to ship directly from ESV tomorrow. Link to comment
lfnieder
It made me remember this comics that was issued in a Brazilian blog, but for sure there is a translation for the English or vice versa: First square - How usually I answer the door 2nd square - How do I answer the door when I expecting a delivery: Link to comment
siwelk
LOL, that's pretty spot on. I'll have to try to capture my face when my new CAD gets dropped off. I'll probably be perched on top of my office building w/ binocs like, "scanning...scanning" Link to comment
siwelk
The ESV B-Ionic SS shipped today. I should be expecting that next week. I would have just ordered the 200g, but MD removed that option while back-ordered. I'm thinking of mixing up a batch soon to seed dry rock over the next couple months. Link to comment
siwelk
Good review of the Maxspect Mazarra P @ RB I've yet to rule these out as an option. Link to comment
