brandonfitz69
Hello all, Well my BC14 was about 2 years old and I was getting bored with the stock lighting. I did add 3 ecoxotic stunner strips to the hood. I just bought the rapid led biocube 14 retro. First off - prices were good and everything shipped fast - so in my book rapid led is great. I know nothing about electronics. I followed the instructions on the rapid led website - and other than taking 5 hours to install , everything went smoothly. Installed the extra fan, heatsink and 6 CREE white leds and 6 CREE royal blue led's , plus I installed 2 actinic stunner strips for sunrise/sunset. I LOVE the shimmer the LEDs give off - it really does look like MH. No to mention that it is bright as hell. only time will tell as far as coral growth. Link to comment

iball1804
Down the road, at least all you have to do in order to make the setup dimmable is change out the drivers and get some potentiometers! Link to comment
Sunar357
Looks good! I just ordered the retro kit for my 14G also with 8RB and 4 NW. =) I went dimmable though as i'm getting an Apex Jr w/ VDM module soon. ~Fred Link to comment

brandonfitz69
The gutting of the stock hood only took 15 min the fans took a few min to rewire The heatsink was drilled and tapped for 12 LEDs but I think the set up is not for the plug n play. Meaning I had to take to 2 inch terminal to terminal jumper and "increase its length" to get everything to mount as shown. I think the only way you can use the plug n play is if you mount the terminals as I did. I also went to radio shack and got some shrink wrap butt connectors for a more secure fit. The LED's def give it more shimmer - and these things are blinding bright I was hesitant on doing the LED retro - but giving the outcome I am glad i did it. now to get more coral as my tank has become a GSP haven.
