Will a vortech get rid of surface scum?

I don't have an overflow so my tank has lots of dust on the surface of the water. I used to have a surface skimmer attach to my rio skimmer and it worked great. It was so nice and clear. I don't have the skimmer on my tank anymore and now it looks like crap. I was thinking of upgrading my pumps and get a vortech mp10. I hope the wave action will make the surface clearer. Any thoughts?

It'll help a little, but without some sort of mechanical surface filtration, it still probably won't be 100% clean. I'd guess you could get it to like 50-75% clean. What about getting just a small AquaClear filter with the surface skimmer add-on?

I only had a mp10 on my tank and it didn't do much with the surface scum. I ended up getting an ac50 with surface skimmer attachment. Surface is crystal clear ever since. Also allows me to run filter floss, chemipure and purigen now. Only a slight complaint with the sight of the surface skimmer attachment in the tank but I'd rather seeing that than have surface scum and lack of water churning for gas exchange.

Thanx I might hold off on the vortech right now. I decided to hook up back my aqua clear with my modfied surface skimmer and it works flawlessly. My koralia are doing the job so the vortech can wait.
