JDK
Dilemma is this....... In order to run the Intank media basket most efficiently where the water is only flowing into the top of the basket and not overflowing and making the filter floss ineffective, the water level in chamber 3 of my BC29 has to be rather low. I have a 100W jager heater and the minimum waterline is a good couple inches below it if I put the heater in chamber 3 even when its angled downward. I do not want the heater in the DT. It wont fit in chamber 1 because of the aquaticlife skimmer. I ordered a reefkeeper lite which should be here this week. I plan on using the RKL to control the heater. If the RKL is controlling the heater on/off at set points does the minimum waterline on the heater matter? I assume the waterline requirement is for the thermostat within the heater which will be negated by the RKL? The other option would be to put the heater in the InTank fuge basket where the Chaeto is. Will this hurt the chaeto being so close to the heater? Options are: Chamber 3 with RKL controlling the heater but not fulfilling the minimum waterline requirements of the heater OR Chamber 2 in with the Chaeto Any advice would be much appreciated thanks Link to comment
Naturalreef
Hey Joe, Just a quick thought, what if you purchased 2 of the flat 25 watt heaters they sell at petsmart? or they also have a tetra heater at walmart that is half the length of a regular heater...Maybe either one of these would fit in the 3rd chamber with the lower water level. Yeah I thought of buying a shorter heater than the jager but my biggest concern was reliability. The last thing I want is a heater to stick on and cook the tank.... but I guess the RKL would prevent that. Was worried the jager heater might explode or something without the minimum waterline achieved. Gonna look up the jager heater manual online now. Just found some info.... # TrueTemp dial with readjustment ring allows the user to calibrate the heater for a precise temperature reading # Thermo safety control in case the tank runs dry. The heater will shut off when out of the water. # On/off indicator light heater may turn off I guess without minimum water? Link to comment
JDK
Well I just measured the jager 100w and it is 12 inches long! My 50w hydor heater for water changes is 6 inches long. Guess I will just pick up another hydor 50w and run both hydors in chamber 3 on the RKL. The jager will become my WC heater. NReef- The tetra heater is not adjustable it is set at 78 all the time. ? Could not find the flat heater you were talking about what brand was it? Link to comment
Naturalreef
Sorry Jdk, Forgot to add they are all preset @78 degrees. Im not sure of the brand of the flat heaters, but I know I have seen them at Petco and petsmart. Well I just measured the jager 100w and it is 12 inches long!
