Need to replace Gobie ?

My High Fin Gobie has disappeared for about a week now but the pistol shrimp is alive .

The High Fin lived about 3 weeks but was in trouble the last time a saw him gasping at the bottom of the tank. He didn't eat much during the 3 weeks despite wafting mysis and cyclopeze his way. I have not recovered body.

The pistol hides in one of the many caves but won't come out.

Should I try another gobie?

I doubt I can get the shrimp out. Will the shrimp slowly starve since it doesn't a "pair of eyes" watching out for him?

What a mistake. My tank is now a sandy mess.

All other fish and shrimp are fine

Thanks

Your shrimp will be fine without the gobie.

You can get another gobie.. Chances are if he is going to take to a pistol shrimp he will find the pistol! Mine lost his pistol shrimp early on.. poor fella :(.. i put another one in.. and the pistol was hiding for a few weeks and eventually.. my gobie vanished.. and eventually upon feeding... There the 2 were coming out :)

Did you buy the shrimp and goby as a pair? The shrimp is fine on its own (and so too for the goby). They only need each other for protection in the wild. You should feed the shrimp. You might wait a few weeks to see if the goby is still alive; they can be shy.

Yes both as a pair. It was really cool to see them together. The shrimp was a bulldozer. They slept together in the same holes.

The goby hasn't been around for a week. Since then the shrimp won't come out but I can see it still alive.

Would a Yasha goby be a good replacement ?

Thanks

Dress your finger up like a goby and stick it into his burrow once in a while. He'll love that.

The pistol should be fine by themselves. They don't always live as a pair, its just bonus. You could get another goby, but there's no way to be sure it'll accept it and won't try to kill it.

Might be too soon. Shrimp could still be in mourning. Rebound goby = risky.
