GuySmily
I'm thinking about adding a sump to my aquarium. It's an unbranded rimless 46 gal, 36.5 L x 14.5 W x 20 H. My stand/cabinet is divided in half, so the sump's max footprint is 13x15. The hole in the back of the stand (for wires and such) is 22" high, but the whole thing is only 27" high and I imagine I'd need more than 5" of work-space. Is it worth it to add a sump with this little volume? At a 13x15" footprint, 12" height = 15" free space above sump = 10.1 gal 15" height = 12" free space = 12.7 gal 17" height = 10" free space = 14.3 gal 20" height = 7" free space = 16.8 gal 22" height = 5" free space = 18.6 gal Considering the sump needs empty volume to prevent overflow, should I even bother? It looks like commercially-available sumps are all much bigger (wider) than this, and I don't know if I want to go custom. The problem is that since the volume is so small, I'm worried I won't have any choice if I want the max possible volume. Link to comment
