Question about overflow returns from Glass - Holes?

I am planning on buying a nano overflow kit for my ada 60-f from Glass-holes dot com and drilling it.. I've never ran a drilled tank before or a sump for that matter so I was wondering what the best size return should be ... 1/2" or 3/4"?

They sell return kits for $27 that include the locline nozzle, bulkhead, holesaw etc... was wondering if it would be more cost effective just to buy the bulkhead for $7 and if I could piece together the rest of the items myself at home depot or something..

Thank!

honestly the most expensive part of a return kit is the drill bit. I ordered a few bits and bulkheads from Glass holes, if I was going to do it again I would ask around locally to borrow a bit from a reefer and just buy a bulkhead. as for the plumbing part, I just used PVC and a 1/2" elbow for my return. see my 40B thread and you'll see what I mean. I'm not using my return as "flow" so to speak, I am getting an MP40 for that, the return is just that...to return the water to the tank.

Right on man - I was thinking as such to do this more cost effectively .. so that begs the question, any local reefers in Chicago area have a glass drill bit I could use? 1/2" or 3/4" would be preferred..

what size bulkhead for the return?

wish I could help, I'm down in Peoria. as for the bulkheads you can find those on Ebay dirt cheap. I bought a 4 pack of 1" bulkheads for 6 bucks.

ok sweet! thanks for the advice - I thought glass holes was a pretty decent site but considering that they're selling their bulkheads for $7... well they have to make money I guess.. Looks like i'm just gonna have to bite it and buy the drill bits - but maybe I can find those on ebay as well? maybe I could just piece together the WHOLE kit on ebay.. would be the $45 nano overflow kit price..

By the way.. I love the Donkey picture, I shared it with several of my chromies..

Can you just have the return nozzle go over the top of the tank, instead of drilling a hole for it? Just wondering if that's do-able, cus i'm looking to do the same thing.

Yes, you can.
