Ledgeco09
I was going to add a yellow clown goby to my 4 gallon pico but the LFS said they have not been receiving them in their orders even though they ask for them. Do you think I can put a helfrichi fire fish in the tank instead? Link to comment
Ledgeco09
Can you tell me why? They seem so small? Link to comment
j_mccord
I had a purple firefish in my 5.5 gallon and decided to take him back. All they do is hide if they are not with a group of other firefish and just added to the bioload. How big is your tank? Because they will get about 3", which is quite a bit of fish for a small tank. Also, aren't Helfrichi Firefish really expensive? And they are also jumpers. Link to comment
ry05coupe
They get too big for such a small aquarium. Link to comment
1fishmonger
Can you? Yes, you can do a lot of things. Should you? No. Link to comment
rfalk
If its open top it will certainly jump...I have one in a 14 gallon biocube (its the only fish) and I would not put one in a tank smaller than that. Link to comment

But no, I wouldn't put a firefish in a tank that small, they get pretty long. Link to comment
Ledgeco09
Thanks for the info. I have one in my 28g NC and he is great, didnt know if it would be mean to move him to the four gallon. Link to comment
.Newman.
i think deli kept a helfrichi in a 6 gallon or something like that...but he took that whole thing down. not much word on what happened to the fish but it probably just got moved to a bigger tank. i think his tank may have been covered too because the fish didnt jump out. I might catch him out every once in a while but whenever I would come near the tank he would go right back under a rock. I only had him for a month though so I guess he just didn't get used to the tank. Link to comment

It tok mine about two months before it stayed out all day on his side on the tank, and he only started swimming all over the tank after getting rid of my Midas Blenny. Link to comment
Micro-Reefs Aquariums
I have two purple firefish in my 25 gallon TruVu acrylic tank. They are very nervous fish and only come out together and if they feel threatened they dart pack under the rocks. They have grown a lot of personality over the months, and make great nano pets, my tank is completely sealed with top, so I don't know if they are carpet surfers. With so many gobies to choose from, have you considered the Yosha? Link to comment
Ledgeco09
Ended up getting a YCG, the helfrichi firefish will remain in the 28g. Thanks for the advice!!! Josh Link to comment
j_mccord
Probably not. It tok mine about two months before it stayed out all day on his side on the tank, and he only started swimming all over the tank after getting rid of my Midas Blenny. Yea, well I do have a small tank so I'm happy with my clown for now. If I get a larger tank I'll get one because they are very attractive fish. Mine never tried to jump, from what I know, but from what I've herd they do jump a bit. But then again, they are very quick little fish, so I imagine that if they did jump they would get some serious air! And good choice. Clown gobies are pretty fish. Just out of curiosity, how much did you give for your helfrichi? Link to comment
