My tank has been a mess the past few months ( 14g bigocube ) and i just started trying to get it back to best conditions and have done water changes regularly and things are looking alot better. I have had purple slime and bubble algae for a while and just tried chemiclean but it didn't work the first time so I tried it again like the directions say to but it didn't work this time either. Should I try a third time right away or give it a little break?

chemiclean can't touch peroxide with a ten foot pole, its inferior in every way. see the peroxide thread in the disease and pest forum, cured. also upload pics of your tank first we have to see what's in it before dosing, and to recommend the right dosing strategy.

chemi clean is useless, throw it out. Lots of people use it, so have I, it can't beat peroxide whatsoever. One treatment correctly with peroxide, whole problem solved. This algae is usually not a nutrient issue, its a hitchhiker, simple to correct. no need to jack around with tank water params

A more natural means will be better imo for you.

Cyano (purple slime) is caused by dead spots in flow, nitrates, and phosphates, get those fixed and suck it out during pwcs and it'll go away eventually

nice call, siphon removal is great for cyano.

post pics original poster we need to make sure its not brush algae that stuff is bad.

^ What he said. Add in more frequent water changes and reduced feeding and you'll be fine in a few weeks. Bombing the tank with chemicals is almost never on my to-do list.

Did you follow the directions? No skimming and no carbon, or any other type of filtering media. This stuff does work. I used it when I first started on my first tank, within 2days cyano started dying and in a week, it was completely gone. Also, tested on a friend's tank, it worked for him also. Though, I will never use it again, as it killed most of my SPS.

+1. If you don't follow the directions, it won't work. Also, make sure the batch you have isn't old and (of course) that what you have is actually cyanobacteria. I accidentally introduced some into my larger tank when it was new and, with the nutrients from the cycle, it took over instead of the normal diatoms and GHA. Siphoning, manual removal, water changes, and additional flow were absolutely useless because it had nutrients to feed on, so it just came right back within 24 hours every time. I used Chemiclean on it, following the directions to the letter, and it worked perfectly. It knocked the cyano out so that the other, usual types of start up algae could take hold and it didn't come back after that.

I didn't lose anything, but I happened to know the exact actual amount of water in the tank and dosed accordingly. If you just go on the size of the tank without taking into account rocks and sand, you'll overdose and may have some problems.

I just want to add that I just got done using chemi clean for the first time and it worked great. For a good 6 months my tank had a bad cyano problem. I was too scared to dose with anything. I tried blackout days here and there but had no luck. Added another powerhead for more flow, no luck. Finally I did a 72 hour blackout after reading it would be ok for my corals. Even then the cyano was still there. So I placed an order for chemi clean and a new chemi pure. The majority of my algae was gone after the first day. When I dosed with the chemi clean I had taken out my old chemi pure and am still waiting to put the new bag in. Mabye keeping your carbon in was the problem for you?
