RobNHood
I want to get a Firefish, does anyone have one and know what the ideal setup of this little guy would be? I havent bought anything yet so I want to build this tank purposely for the Firefish. Maybe a male and female pair. Link: http://www.nano-reef.com/fish/?fish=7 Link to comment

wartskin
Don't forget the saltwater someone got me with that one once thought it was pretty funny Link to comment
AaronHartwell
+1 on the lid They love to jump. I forgot to put the lid on my tank one night and found a shrinky dink fish on the carpet the next morning. Trying to rehydrate him didn't work. Link to comment
altolamprologus
A tight fitting lid with no holes and a lot of rock with plenty of caves to hide in. Link to comment
R3CLINED4544
They are really cool and pretty fish! i loved mine!! mine was a little shy but he got better and came out more the longer i had him! theyre fins are really cool! they like flick them up and down? idk i liked it. uhm i had one in a 10 gallon with 2 clowns. i would go bigger though! 20 sounds pretty good with at least a glass cover... they do love to jump:( and live rock for them to hide in like everyone said:) enjoy! also the purple ones are pretty cool! never had one but theyre pretty cool! make sure you do your research to figure out if they are compatible with the same species, they might be aggressive towards other firefish. also know how to tell the difference in male and female! unless they can change like clowns can! Red_Blenny
Lid and lots of hiding spaces... just don't get two of the same species unless they're a mated pair.. but they can still break up. I had two in my 30gal tank and they got along but they suddenly started fighting and I had to drain 50% of the water and take ALL the rocks out to catch one of them.. *sigh* Link to comment

Care requirements for firefish aren't that overwhelming, but you have to know the basics of keeping a tank. Read through a few of these articles and get a handle on the basics (if you haven't already). http://www.nano-reef.com/articles/ 20 gallon and a good lid And also this. Or an all-in-one tank around the same size. I kept a single FF in a 14g biocube when I started reefing. Link to comment
wartskin
Its a good idea if you get this fish from the LFS to have them hold it for say 3 days cause from my experience these fish don't ship well and make sure you watch em eat before you take it home Link to comment

RobNHood
They normally have them at one of my LFS. They keep them in little floating jars so they don't hurt each other. They almost always have them in stock but they sell them quick so I don't know how long they have been there. This will be my second saltwater tank. and my 8th tank over all. Im a little addicted to this hobby. Link to comment
RobNHood
Do the firefish like to share a home with a pistol shrimp? Link to comment
wartskin
No pistol could kill firefish or they could get along just fine Link to comment
Criley7
You should get a Helfrichi Firefish pair though. Change it up a little if that is all you plan on having in there. Link to comment
altolamprologus
Do the firefish like to share a home with a pistol shrimp? Firefish aren't shrimpgobies, nor do they burrow. Link to comment
lakshwadeep
Someone actually read my article! I need to update it... Firefish kept by themselves are fairly active, unlike what some members report in tanks with many other, usually more aggressive, fish. Besides a glass lid, you could get a mesh cover, provided the openings are much smaller than what a firefish could fit through. The other alternative is to have very high walls/barriers or a canopy. +1 to firefish not being shrimp gobies (or actually gobies, in the first place); although, they do use "bolt holes" which can include areas near the sand bed. mikeawesome
i bought a firefish 2 days ago and everything was fine. yesterday i came home from work and it disappeared. finally found him floating in the protein skimmer dead Link to comment
BLoCkCliMbeR
personally, i find that fish are more active with more space, and no competition. they stake their lil territories and if some of the more timid fish have and aggressive fish to contend with, it makes for an unhappy fish.
