HELP! cloudy water for past 3 days

so around 3 days ago i was rearranging my coral and i figured it was finally time to remove the ugly kenya tree out of my tank. i cut it at the base of the trunk with a razor blade and thought all was well after i removed it. well i was wrong. the next morning my water was very cloudy and everything was closed up and covered in slime and the slime was clogging my intake filter media with a slimy substance. i immediately did a 50% water change that day and yesterday i did another one with no improvement. the slime keeps clogging my filter media and i have to replace it every 4 or 5 hours or else itll stop the water flow to the pump. im thinking that it was most likely the kenya tree that caused this or my toadstool leather but its polyps are extending somewhat normally. should i go to the lfs and get some carbon to polish the water? someone please help me!
