qtpinoyboy408 Posted March 25, 2004 Share Posted March 25, 2004 I just bought a 29gal and i got 25lbs of figi live rock i'm gonna cycle my tank but my ballast is the one i got with the tank it holds one 24" fluorescent blub it is a 20 wat coralife 50/50. is that enough to cycle my tank? I was planning on getting a good ballast after it cycles. What do you guys think? Thanks, ryan Link to comment
NanoAmyDee Posted March 25, 2004 Share Posted March 25, 2004 That is pretty low. You may want to up it a little bit at least. There is debate about this, but IMO you do need the light to cycle the tank. It will cause the algae blooms to happen during the beginning of the cycle, and it seems to cycle the tank quicker. I think the bacteria benefit from the light. Also, I am of the thought that you should cycle the tank the way it is going to be setup. That way nothing changes after the cycle and the tank is more stable. Anything you changes will affect the tank and the bacteria living in it. Link to comment
