I decided to go with a Oceanic 57 Gallon Rimless after I decided my JBJ 28 gal was too small

Brs dual media reactor with gfo and carbon

Flow: 2 Vortech MP-10 on Reef Crest

All controlled by a reef angel controller that's awesome

Very nice! Are you getting good coverage with those two lights?

Yeah the coverage is great

As far as coloration goes, so far the color is quite nice. The coloration, IMO is better than with the ecoxotics that I had on my previous tank. I am thinking of adding an actinic kessil in addition when they come out in the near future (I talked to a Kessil rep and there is a whole line of new lights coming out, for those of you interested I would wait until October to buy)

So after a long while I want to revive my build. Tank has been up for quite some time and a lot has changed. I'll post some pics tomorrow. I changed lights from kessils to aquastyle as I bought a controller and wanted some controllability. I also had quite a few fish die through ich, carpet surfing, and aggression. When I changed lights I bleached many sps that had some awesome growth and color until now. I am running my lights on 20 percent until the bleaching stops. Hopefully my tank can recover. I will also be doing a rescape soon I hope.

Hey

I didn't even realize I got a message. I haven't updated since I setup. I've been working hard on the tank. Lots of progress and some set backs. My salinity has been real low due to a faulty hydrometer which killed many sps. Now I'm raising it after getting a refractometer. I now have a DIY led kit that I made. I'll put some current and in progress pics up later. I'm on my phone right now so can't post the pics.

Thanks for checking in!

Here are some pics.

FTS on first post as well.

Now I need to raise salinity before my new SPS frags bleach like the others. Guess I should have waited before adding more.. got some new sps and zoas and a purple ricordia...ill get some pics of those another day

Can anyone ID the zoas?

Anybody want to help me Id the two zoas in the above pic? Also I woke up this morning to another sps slowly dying. I really need to get the salinity raised a bit faster. It went from 1.020 to 1.022 in two days. Now I added more salt to the ato. Hopefully it'll top off more as its going to be hot for the next couple days. I left windows open and fans blowing to aid in evaporation.

Got my salinity up to 1.024. The SPS are all regaining their color extremely quickly. My orange monti cap actually looks orange again and my new SPS look brighter than ever. I will try to get some pics of my bonsai and pink milli tomorrow.

Now the problems that I need to fix are my overflow being extremely loud (ill install a durso on my glass holes overflow) and i have ich coming and going on my tang. I am treating with no ich which seemed to work in the past.

Anybody know how to add photos without using the attachmend editor? I want to be able to put photos inthe text so I can put captions...any ideas?

I also have a bunch of new stuff coming in the mail from John at ReefCleaners. A replacement Decorator Crab, 2 Porcelain crabs, mangroves, red gracillera, and some variety snails

I got lots of new photos

Sweet mandarin! If I had to guess on the second zoa I'd say its a some sorta blue paly. People give zoas/palys weird names so chances are it has a bunch of weird names

Thanks! The mandarin is so much fun to watch.. just kinda hovers all day.

And Sorry, I meant the one in my last post. It has a green center, then yellow and pink, then red on the outside with a greenish brown skirt

Haha my bad man, But a lot of zoas don't have specific names yet. When I go to frag swaps the coral farmers tell me they have no clue what the names are so I can just name them for myself, and I do lol.

Upload them on photobucket.com and copy and paste the IMG code. That's what I do anyway. You lose a bit of the quality, but you can add captions that way.

Nice tank, by the way. :)

Mantisman- Thanks. I have never been to a frag swap, but I would love to go to one. There is one locally soon and I plan on going. I have been selling a lot of frags lately which is saving me lots of money when I go buy new corals. It seems like the name is worth more than the actual coral IMO. I get corals that look good but are cheap, then find out that they are $15-$20 pp. Pretty crazy.

Gramaphone- Thanks I will try to use photobucket

Yeah I'm still pretty new to frag swaps too! What I like to do is go to local fish stores and go up to their tanks that have brown ugly zoas under some crappy compact florescents, offer them a cheap price cuz tey look like their about to die and throw them into my tank and see what they turn into. I've gotten a lot of cool zoas that way

Thats exactly what I have been doing and I have been making quite a bit of money. I got LA Lakers, some amazing blue/green palys, and what I think is a bowser paly for dirt cheap.

Good thing about zoas is that they grow fast, so even if you sell them for super cheap you can still make some cash to but more corals and fish

So I did some work on the tank this weekend. I redid my sump to make the fuge a little better. I got a clean up crew and some mangroves so I decided that I should put some sand and live rock and a small CUC in the refugium. I now have 2 inches of coarse sand, 5 mangroves, 4 types of algae, and some nassarius snails and small hermit in the fuge.

I also picked up a small fighting conch and a leopard wrasse for the thank. Ive always wanted a leapord wrasse and I couldnt say know when I saw it at Neptune Aquatics. Only problem now is that he has been hiding for 3 days, but that is normal.

Now i think i have a HUGE bioload, but my brs dual reactor, refugium, and skimmer are doing a spectacular job. I also increased my WC schedule from 5 gallons to 7 gallons weekly.

Here is my fish list now

2 False Percs

1 Six line wrasse

1 YWG

1 Kole tang

1 Diadem Dottyback

1 Spotted Mandarin

1 Lyretail Anthias

1 Leapord Wrasse

2 Blue Green Chromis

1 Bicolor blenny

I want to get rid of the chromis as they do NOTHING-just swim along the surface eating and pooping. I would like to get another anthias or two but I am definately pushing my bioload limit.

Anybody know how chromis compare to anthias in bioload?

I am also contemplating getting another mp10 to go with the one i got a few weeks ago.

Within 10 minutes of putting the other wrasse in the tank, he hid in the sand. I have read quite a bit into it and knew to expect it before I even bought the fish. They can hide up to a month. Sometimes they come out at night as well because they are not used to the photoperiod shift from where they are collected (S. Pacific)

Yeah i definately have many fish..Thats why I want to get rid of the chromis. Also the YWG is not my favorite. I have had him for a long long time and never liked him. He got a bacterial infection that ate through his flesh on his back. His dorsal fin fell off and I could see his intestines and spine. It slowly healed but he has a big scar hole and no dorsal fin still after a year and a half later.

Also the blenny is a little S%#T. He bites me all the time

And now some pix of my Anthias, my Blenny who thinks he is a king on his leather throne, and my favorite zoa (anybody got an ID)
