thejtl
Hey all, I picked up a MJ 1200 yesterday hoping to use it as an in-tank powerhead in my BC 29. I put it in there and WOW, stuff really got moving. I've replaced the stock pump with it for now, but I really want two sources of motion in there. Any way I can still use it in tank? Link to comment

One other thing you can do is get some loc-line with a splitter to direct the flow in a couple directions. Link to comment

Hammcd
if its one of the new mj1200s they have an attachment i believe that makes it a 1300gph powerhead which is WAY too much...wonder if u have this installed..normally its a 295 gph return pump or powerhead i think...this would be decent although a litle puny imo..some people run 2 of the korelia 425 gph in their biocube 29 along with the 295 gph MJ1200 as the return pump...i personally have one 425 korelia in mine along with the stock pump and it does great..will probably add more flow if i decide to get more sps actually when i look at the info online it looks like the new ones are either a 295 gph return pump or can convert to a 1300 gph powerhead..i dont see where it can be a 295 powerhead but may be wrong "The Maxi-Jet Pro 1200 comes with two different front covers and impellers. With the installed impeller and impeller cover the Maxi-Jet Pro 1200 is a 295 gph power head has input and output connections for powering undergravel filters, protein skimmers, calcium reactors and refugiums. For creating water movement the Maxi-Jet Pro comes with a propeller and propeller assembly for creating a 1,300 gph circulation pump." Link to comment

Yeah, the directions are not really all that specific. http://www.marineland.com/uploadedFiles/Ma...JetPro.QSUG.pdf I tried it as indicated in options 1 and 2 and both seemed to produce way too much flow in the tank, sand blowing around, fish and corals blowing around. There is a third option, but I wasn't sure that was what I was looking for. Can't figure out what to do. It is creating quite a bit more flow as the return pump compared to the stock pump, though. The water flows though the filter with some oomph now. Kinda a drag though. I was satisfied with the stock pump. Just wanted to get some more flow going in the tank. I guess now i can get this, or should I return the 1200 and go with the 400? Link to comment
