pilandisland
Ive just started cycling a 6.6 gallon plastic tank, for a while salt water was just sitting in there with a piece of live rock. Theres some type of build up on the tank walls that's hard to come off and I don't want to scratch it, Any suggestions ? Link to comment
Ezsharkman
get a glass tank... just kidding when you say plastic... do you mean acrylic? if its acrylic make sure you get a cleaner that wont scratch it... it should say " for acrylic tanks" on the package Link to comment

brandon429
wet a paper towel w peroxide clean across it, let sit and burn for 5 mins, it will slowly fade over the coming days. tank needs to be drained or made empty, but it sounds like a fresh start is needed anyway. if theres livestock in there xfer them out until this one is ready peroxide is really good at cleaning glass so you don't have to use abrasives, multiple treatments are likely needed for bad cases. we need pics of the offending tank! This is a terrible recommendation for somebody who is new to this hobby. Did you seriously just recommend they empty their tank and treat it with peroxide for several days? Just go with an acrylic safe aquarium cleaner. Link to comment
brandon429
sure I recommended it, that wasnt a ghost paragraph. if you don't like it dont do it I dont mislead anyone, ever. there is nothing special about peroxide that prevents a new hire from using it. we've coached about 50 new hires through the process in pm and in the perx thread its one of many options dont get a headache over it but its exactly what I recommend. per the descrip this isnt a stocked tank so its perfect for it and it should be done weekly, preventatively, when the water is drained for changes. are those apples ok? pilandisland
I wish I did all that before I dumped the water in and hooked everything up .. I'll probably end up taking out a little so that when I'm scrubbing it water isn't getting everywhere. It is verrrrry hard to get off with just a sponge (tried that last night) Link to comment
brandon429
the tank is not bad at all, not having animals in it gives you flexibility. I liked h202 because it prevents abrasion, the enemy of a plastic tank. this is a very nice tank, it doesn't even look that bad! I was picturing a green haze line circumventing the tank all dried and crusty... Link to comment
pilandisland
thanks, I plan on getting some more lr today.. I really only want one fish in here eventually after I get my reef going.. the build up on the walls is white, but still hard to get off and it'll just bother me if I leave it there. I'll try a couple of things.. Link to comment
