whiteheadfamily2415
Can someone explain to me what they use to "dip" new corals as well as the process. I've heard this several times, but I've never done so. I'm guessing that I've just been really lucky so far. Thanks! Link to comment
malawian
i use coral revive, its worked very well for me. ive heard good things about coralRX (i think thats what its called) and ive heard of people using lugols solution but i dont know how that works personally. revive and coralRX are both intended for that purpose and have nice easy instructions for doing so. knoxvegas
After a bad case of red flatworms I always dip! Don't risk it, dip it! Is the CoralRx slogan, I think. I use Lugol's. I acclimate then treat the frag in the bag with enough drops to turn the water dark like tea for 3 mins or so, sometimes swish rinse (not always), in it goes. Everything gets dipped, nothing goes in the tank without dipping. Helps zoas too that have slimed and/or just don't look too happy. I treat them the same way. Link to comment
whiteheadfamily2415
Thanks! I'll see what the local Petsmart has this evening (guessing not much). We have a few great stores within 20 minutes of us, so I can pick it up over the weekend or worse case I'll order online. After a bad case of red flatworms I always dip! Don't risk it, dip it! Do you actually see "bugs" come off the frags? Just curious as I've never done this. Link to comment
poidog
DIP EVERYTHING! I used revive, but now use CoalRX - it's like revive, but better IMO. Yes, you see the pests fall off. petsmart will only have iodine, if that. go to your LFS or order online. Link to comment

I think its an absolute must, cleans all the gunk off and makes them recover from the transfer better! Link to comment
altolamprologus
I dip with Lugol's solution. After the corals have acclimated, I mix tank water with enough lugol's to make it a light tea color and dip the frags for 15 minutes(less for more sensitive ones). I dipped my zoa colony too when it was doing weird stuff and no one could tell me what was wrong and the day after dipping they looked better than ever. Link to comment
Lee Van Reef
http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=159974 I dip most of my corals in fresh water as well. Link to comment
gerbilbox
Revive, Coral RX, and Lugol's seem to be the most popular. I use Revive myself and it has worked well on my zoas, duncan, fungia, hammers/frogspawn, candy canes, acan, and montiporas. Corals get agitated by the dip but they recover quickly. I create the solution in small bucket as per directions using tank water, run a small powerhead, then dip for 10-15 minutes before moving them into quarantine. People who have used both Revive and Coral RX seem to like Coral RX better. Can those of you chime in as to why? Link to comment
