BioCube 14G mod question

I'm trying to figure out which MaxiJet900 model people are using in their BioCube mods.

Marineland NJ900 Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pump?

 

or

technically, you and use any pump with roughly the same out put...the MJ is just the crowd favorite

I should be looking at a powerhead style pump, not a submersible utility though - or does it not make a difference?

doesnt make that much of a difference, you can use a MJ is basically a submersible pump, ive seen them even used out of the water, just plumbed into the system like a big boy pump.

 

main difference is the price...and the submersible might push out slightly more gph.

 

the regular MJ 900 powerhead/multi use pump is usually what is used.

I use the newer version of the MJ900 powerhead inplace of the stock pump combined with a Koralia nano 240 in my cube and it is perfect for now.

It's hard when you don't have any physical objects in front of you - and when your internet searches bring up three things all named the same.

both will work. I prefer the newer model which is the pump/powerhead combo. just set it up as a pump and not the power head.
