FlCandy Posted April 16, 2012 Author Share Posted April 16, 2012 So this is a cruddy Google sketchup of what I am planning. I want more Macro room and less room for the skimmer and return. Hope this shows you guys. We plan on getting the acrylic and cutting it ourselves. He seems confident with that and I will have a little play with it as we can trial and error. That and I will need less baffles this way, and I get 90% of the tank for Macros and Fuge area. Thoughts and criticisms are more then welcome! Link to comment

Congrats on upgrading to a 40b - I don't see a problem with that fuge design. As they are to increase total volume, and give you a place to grow stuff without being seen in the DT. What size sump is that? and which skimmer are you going with? Forgive me if those questions have already been answered I'm not going to read 50 pages of text to find it Link to comment

The skimmer is a PS160 from Aquatraders and has a footprint of 10x12, right now it is running as a HOB. End of this week, I should have the stand done and the new tank we will be moving things too. A will get the black Acrylic and we will go from there. OR! I can put the return in the opposite corner from the skimmer/line from the tank overflow. I think I like that better! On to sketchup I go! This is going to have the back painted black and the baffles will be made of Black Acrylic as well. Display Fuge/Sump FTW! Link to comment

But hey I think I can get away with just one in there at the front as I will have the return flow from the Mag 7 diverted there to control my flow. So much to plan! I have a powerhead/pump. Don't you get gassy on occasion? No it's from her food, what are you feeding her? Also I am a Vet Tech, so basically the person who doe all the medical procedures etc other then surgery. Doctors are lazy. Yeah I am considering it all, I plan on having the t valve there to help adjust the flow etc, I have a 600GPH overflow box and a Mag7 for the return, I just want to keep it at about 400GPH total flow through the filter, so control is a must. I will probably have to adjust the box around the return pump, ATO will be there as well...... As always you make me think more! Any faults you see in the design though? Same thing I thought! Deckoz2302 Posted April 16, 2012 Share Posted April 16, 2012 I see no faults, other then enlarging the return chamber by an inch or three. this will atleast give room around the pump so air bubbles from falling over the baffle wont get shot upto the display, and will also give room for the ato, that little return chamber is the only place youll see your evap...in otherwords maintaining water level there is pertinent otherwise you evap and burn a pump :\ haha yea probably the food...it was just funny cause it only happens when she sticks her ass straight in the air....lol kitty queef Link to comment

I planned on making it a bit larger, Sketchup is not a true to life just a visual aide for me. Gotcha on the evap, I always figured it was that one that needs watching as it's the only one water is being actively pumped out of. That and all the reading I have been doing.
