Sarcophyton elegans, Yellow toadstool

Vort

Recommended Posts

So I bought this leather, thinking I need some softies in my tank, this bright yellow toadstool caught my eye.

So I bought it and put it into my tank, and I couldn't be happier with it, its a beautiful specimen, and I was surprised to find it wasn't dyed or anything shady like that.

I don't have any pics, but if anyone'd like to share theirs, I'd be a for a nice thread.

I kept going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to keep my toadstool in my biocube. I have had this coral in one way or another since getting into the hobby five years ago. It started out as a freebie from my boss and quickly tripled in size. I have made several frags of it over the years and all the frags grew up to be great looking specimens as well. Now its one of my favorite things in my tank. Its about that time again to frag it.

Its a cool coral to be sure, adds a lot of needed color to the tank, you have any pictures of your toadstool?

I was always afraid to try leather coral in prior tanks for fear of chemical warfare, but I finally took the plunge and added this guy:

So far he's pretty cool, very dramatic change from day to night. I got a little worried when he closed up tight for 4 days when I introduced him, but he finally shed a layer of skin and opened up nicely.
