Set-up Question

Hello All,

I've purchased a Oceanic 29 Biocube. My plan is to create a habitat for a True Percula clown pair, and coral beauty, and a fire shrimp; and after a year add a mandarin goby. I wated to know if this is too much life for the Biocuce to maintain, assuming I will be making bi monthly water changes.

Also if you could suggest a anemone that might do well in the biocube. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Ok-So I've done more reading on the forum. I'm over both the anememe and the Mandarin Goby; as the results of my reading lead me to believe I'd kill them both. With that said, I would appreciate help with the question: is having 2 clowns, 1 coral beauty, and a fire shrimp too much for the tank to handle.

Also could you perhaps suggest any low care corals that do well in this stock Biocube?

Thanks

Fish are fine. Keep an eye on the coral beauty. Some may nip at coral.

I would try and do biweekly water changes if you want to have coral. Start off with some soft corals and then add a few LPS.

Mushrooms, zoas, kenya tree, colt, toadstool

Frogspawn, Hammer, Duncan.

Many people have clowns that host the LPS I listed

Weekly 20% water changes are sufficient and the amount of fish you want is fine. You can keep soft coral, LPS and some sps in there. You can't have a nem, but with proper preparation and a little work, you can have a mandarin.

You're on the right track! Do your research on the livestock you want... filter out the ones you can not keep. Create a habitat for the livestock you will be housing. Also remember, patience... patience... patience. Make sure you fully cycle your tank. I'm actually going to be "cycling" my new setup for at least 2 months (a little overkill) but part of it is out of necessity (going on a long trip out of the country in October).

Easy to care for corals: All photosynthetic softies and LPS are pretty easy to care for. Some LPS will need more target feeding then others, so concern will need to be given to that when it comes to water quality.

Some specific suggestions:

Softies

Leathers

Mushrooms

Ricordias or Yumas

Zoanthids

Xenias (Grows like weeds)

Green Star Polyps (Grows like weeds)

LPS

Euphyllias (Hammer or Frogspawn corals)

Brain corals

Acan Lords

Hope that helps!

Thank you all for the advice. It's great. I went to Vivid Aquariums over the weekend, and did some window shoping and info seeking. I must admit the idea of keepiing a manderin seems very daunting.
