rc407093
Hey folks, I know that there are tons and tons of threads out there about LED builds and whatnot, but I'm adding another so get ready. I gladly welcome any advice/opinions/etc. I'm planning an LED fixture for a 10g tank (20 x 10 x 12) that will be approximately 4"-6" above the tank. I've pieced together what parts I think I want to go with, but before I order, I want to see what everyone's opinions/thoughts about the setup are. I was planning on going with: -5.9" x 9" heatsink -XP-G NW (x4) -XP-E RB (x8) -XP-E CB (x2) -BJB Solderless LED Connectors (x14) -Inventronics 40w 700mA Driver (x2)(with Leviton 2 prong plug/potentiometer/knobs) -80mm Vantec Stealth fan (with DC jack and AC adapter) I've read that the XP-E CB can make a tank look windex-y, but I haven't been able to find a picture of what it actually looks like. Here is how I'm planning on arranging them: Also, I'm planning on running the 4 XP-G NW and the 2 XP-E CB together on the 1st driver while keeping the 8 XP-E RB on the 2nd driver. First post complete! Thanks in advance ya'll Link to comment
chucktdbm321
I just did abuild similar and you should have the whites spread out more so you have better blending and go with the 60mm fan (same one i have) and it is more than enough. RB-NW-RB-NW-RB RB-B-B-RB RB-NW-RB-NW-RB Much better blending this way^ Link to comment
rc407093
Thanks man, do you think i'd need any optics? Also, have you had any experience with the CB? BTW, your build looks great! Any pics with it over the tank? Link to comment
chucktdbm321
I'll put pics up in a bit but my fixture is about 4" inches away from the surface and the whole tank is lit up nicely without optics so if you were to add them you'd wanna put it up a lot higher to get the same converage. So being that your tank is a ten like mine i'd say no to the optics. I too wanted to put some blues in my build but then decided to go with 8 RB and 4 NW. I too have heard blues making it "windex like" I do plan on adding 2 420nm leds to my build and taking out 2 RB. That's the beuty of paste and screws so easy to replace leds. Not sure if you looked into that. Link to comment
rc407093
In the next few days I'll be drilling my heatsink and continuing with the build. Right now, I'm planning on doing this pattern: RB - NW - RB - NW - RB RB - CB - CB - RB RB - NW - RB - NW - RB Anyone else have any thoughts or ideas or anything else about this before I make it happen? Thanks! Link to comment
chucktdbm321
I'd suggest maybe swap the blues out for the 420 violet leds but your call. And i have pics up of it over my tank and 12 leds is plenty i have whites on about 30% and blues on 50% Link to comment
