clayphx
Got these really nice pink zoas yesterday. Very difficult to capture. I read in an Ecoxotic coral map guide that pink zoas should be in the top 1/3 of the tank. ??? Link to comment
PinkDamsel
My pink zoas don't keep their pink color, they go brown or grey instead. I'm not sure if it's the amount/intensity of light or the spectra. In my case I suspect the latter. Those are very pretty. What kind of light are they under? Link to comment
mike c
My Pinks faded too, after about a month under PC's. I just upgraded to Panorama Pro LEDs. Im hoping they'll brighten back up! Link to comment
Bill Nye
I had my pink zoas directly under a 70w MH on the sand bed in a 5.5g tank. They were always very pink. Link to comment
PRReef
Mines are still pink after 3 months in my tank, my lighting is: 250w XM20k MH with 4 T5 bulbs(2 blue+&2purple+) Link to comment
MitchReef
Mine are very pink, have been for about 4 years under PC, 150MH and 250MH, most reliable zoas I have ever had.... Link to comment

mike c
Sounds like they do best under higher lights. Anyone else got other pics? Link to comment
21093r53
Sounds like they do best under higher lights. Anyone else got other pics? this is the case with most "high-end" zoas, they come from two to four feet of water.... Link to comment
PinkDamsel
I should have mentioned mine are under a PAR30 LED in a shallow tank, so I don't think they need MORE light. The light is 4 Royal Blue/1 Cool White. One that I have for a year was also dull under my weak 9w CF before I got the LED. The sellers' tanks where they had nice color were T5 lighting, and they WERE nice and pink for a few weeks in my tank under the LED. This thread is very helpful, w. people reporting their lighting. So far it seems several MHs keep the pink. Anyone got pink under LEDs? Link to comment
Trick
I got pinks under led's and i keep them near the bottom in the shade. They came from 50 ft. of water so i think they like lower light. Link to comment
MitchReef
These are mine....just Pink Zoas, but they have been that color under every lighting setup they've been under....that's an old picture but I imagine they have made several hundred polyps over time....they are about 1/2 inch wide polyps....That's a 1 1/4 inch frag tile.... Interesting. I just upgraded to LEDs this weekend, I'll keep em low for now. I took a pic of my duncan frag, but also got my pink zoas in the shot. Theyre on the right. See how dark they've gotten (compare to other pic, day of purchase). Keep in mind, the bottom pic is under PC's, and the top is under new LEDs (which are A LOT more blue/magenta). Link to comment
PinkDamsel
See how dark they've gotten (compare to other pic, day of purchase). This is exactly what happened to me! What kind of LED do you have? Nice duncan. Link to comment
mike c
This is exactly what happened to me! What kind of LED do you have? Nice duncan. Ecoxotic 19w Panorama Pros. In person they're beautiful! My camera phone cant pic up the blue and magenta color, so it comes out as just dark blue most of the time. Ive got 3 Panoramas on my JBJ 28. 12k white, 445nm blue, and a 445nm magenta. Thanks! EDIT: The LEDs have only been running since Saturday, so time will tell if the pinks color back up. Link to comment
Trick
mine stayed closed when moved to the new tank until i put them in lower light. Mine are extremely finicky though, and they are susceptible to red slime and simply closing up for some time. Link to comment
DK_Reef
what is the acceptable PAR for high end zoas? Link to comment
Trick
It depends on where their collected from and what their natural light conditions are like. Link to comment

Trick
I think you need to start'em down low and gradually move'em up to where you like their color the best. Link to comment
Zoafreak
+1 if they lose color definitely move them higher up and they should brighten. but if they get uglier put them in the shade and see what happens, i did that with some of my purples cause i fragged it. ones with that were in the shade turned pink, ones i placed high up turned dark purple, ones on the bottom of my tank, but full light had dark purple with pink dots. one of the coolest test i've ever done. I should have taken pictures... sorry Link to comment
