My solution to a rock crab

So I noticed a rock crab on my LR today, and I remembered seeing them on Chuck's Hitchhicker ID site, so I panicked and went to grab it with tweezers. Unfortunately in my panic I tried to get it too fast and he got away.

My solution:

I took the whole piece of LR that he is in out of the tank and put it in a bucket of premixed salt water. I put the rock on one side and an assortment of foot on the other (I have hikari sinking wafers and some really fragrant hikari shrimp pellets from my FW tank).

My strategy is to check on it periodically and watch for the crab (who is in the dark) to come out to feast. Then, when he is out of the rock, I'll take the rock back out and put it in the display, leaving crabby in the bucket with no where to hide. *Insert sadistic chuckle here* :D

Genius? I hope so!

Haha I'll try and get pics when I capture it!

definitely rid your tank of it. I thought I had noticed one in my tank a few times, but ignored it as a non issue. I then purchased and placed a nice new single headed ricordia on that rock only to come home to it being munched on by the rock dweller. It could have been an isolated incident, but luckily I came home to a dead crab not too long ago.

Well that rock is staying in isolation till I get rid of it! So far no luck baiting him out... What's something crabs can't resist?

you can also dip the rock in club soda, it should crawl right out.

Will club soda kill everything else on the rock?
