stifler51
soooo im relatively new to the hobby and loving everything except the money being spent lol. Well, not really knowing what to look for as far as pest. We saw a few Aiptasia (didnt know the name at the time) on a small rock in the pico and didnt know if it was bad good or whatever. So the girlfriend left it be.We moved the pico to a BC14. Now they are taking over the tank and getting out of hand so we did some research and little did we know they are a pain in the ass to get rid of. Showing my newness to the hobby, admitting i didnt know, im looking for the best way to get rid of them? Link to comment
broxxor
Try a peppermint shrimp? That'd be my first step. Otherwise, it's hard work using Aiptasia-X, lemon juice, or boiling water. Link to comment
smai-tai
You can try peppermint shrimp. I had like 10 peppermints in my BC29 to rid it of aiptasia, and they didn't do anything. I took the 20 minutes out of my day and handled all of them with aiptasia-x, works GREAT! I also invested in a zapper which works really well with aiptasia and mojanos, but I only use that now to maintain if they ever darte to return. LOL Link to comment
stifler51
does JoesJuice work? anyone use that before? Link to comment
smai-tai
does JoesJuice work? anyone use that before? I have heard that it works. But my LFS does not carry it, they carried aiptasia-x, so I got that and it worked great for me. But if you have access to joes juice, go for it I guess. Link to comment
stifler51
well a LFS to even go look and see is 40 min drive from here so ill probably end up making an order somewhere and spending more money on other things then the 1 thing i was ordering for in the first place...... ahhh this hobby... stifler51
with some of those products, is there a limit on how many u should kill at one time without overloading the system? Link to comment
shaqdan
I've done the lemon juice thing before but it can be a pain to get to some of the aiptasia if it is in a weird spot. Aiptasia-X comes with a syringe thing with a bent end, so it's perfect. And as far as I know, you can't use "too much" and harm your tank (but others may know for sure). The problem with peppermints is they can eat Zoas if you have those in your tank. You can also buy some peppermints that simply don't eat aiptasia, so it's pretty much luck of the draw. I say spend the 15 bucks or whatever it is and order Aiptasia-X. Link to comment
smai-tai
I have used it, and IMO, used a lot in one sitting, and nothing has happened to my tank while using aiptasia-x. Link to comment
wartskin
Peppermints not eating aiptasia? Never heard of such a thing, ya must have gotten sold camelbacks? And yes you can od a tank on that stuff, natural is the way to go.... IMO Link to comment
stifler51
El natural is too late. It's to big of an infestation that we have to try chemical killing. We are gonna try picking up a pep shrimp tomorrow. Hopefully somewhere will have one. Link to comment
basser1
Berghia Nudibranchs are the way to go. I got 3 of them and they eliminated all of 'em. Peppermint shrimps are hit or miss. Once they get a taste of other foods, they won't touch aiptasia. Link to comment
colormyheart
Peppermints have to be wild caught in order to eat aiptasia. And even then, camelbacks are often sold as pepps by mistake. It really is a hit or miss. Take the time to use aiptasia-rx. It really does work, just time consuming. Link to comment
BKR
Two words....Bergia Nudebranch...do not check my spelling please, THEY WORK!!!!! Berghia Nudibranchs are the way to go. basser1
Don't know if anyone has noticed, but I was on LiveAquaria, Divers Den section, and saw they had some berghia for sale in groups of 3. http://www.liveaquaria.com/diversden/ItemD...amp;ddid=128809 Link to comment
clayphx
+1 on Aiptasia X! Used lemon juice on frags but when they're in tank the X works great. Tried a peppermint and all it did was irritate the corals and shredded a sick Ricordea. I think I've tried to kill a small feather duster a couple of times. They behave and look like Aiptasia at times. PS Btw, I have an overpopulation of Waving Palm Xanthia. Dropped a little X on a baby just to see if it could help with "weed control". No mas! Love Xenia/Xanthia but they are like weeds in my tank! Link to comment

I have some aiptasia X, I might try it! Link to comment

I have some aiptasia X, I might try it! I thought of broadcasting this one after Googling "how to kill Xenia". LOL! Not sure what is in A-X but it works. I also dosed with something that nearly killed them...they shrank like withered balloons...I think it was too much Strontium/Molybdenum. Not sure though. A newb! Link to comment
LeslieAnn
My experience with Peppermint shrimps has been hit or miss. If they get hungry enough they usually will, but at the same time, they may snack on other things instead. They will eat Xenia polyps (grrr) and will usually only tackle small aiptasia. When they work, they do well, it's worth at least putting one in and seeing what happens. They are cheap and not a burden. Link to comment
stifler51
Wow aiptasia-x worked wonders. Killed prolly 50+ that took over my tank. Now all that's left is a few tiny tiny ones that u have to look for to find. But ill get those tomorrow. All in all a complete turn around in 1 day. Best $12 spent on the tank yet. Link to comment
coachtuk
How can you tell if it's aiptasia or feather dusters? Mine are so small right now it's hard to tell. I tried to touch it with my baster and it sucked back into the rock Link to comment
