OMG! I cannot believe what i just saw... it really freaked me out. I pulled up a chair to see what new life i could find ( i have too much time on my hands - day off from school!). I was looking at the sand. I have a pretty DSP. About 3 inches. 30 lbs of sand. So in the front you can sometimes see little trails from worms and stars. I noticed a pretty wide trail right up in the front that went down to the black rim on the bottom of the tank. I then saw about 30 long arms across the sand bed. Some pretty long. They looked like a kind of clear floss string or something. I noticed that all led back to the one trail. I then saw a worm looking thing start to come up through the hole. It scared the crap out of me ( i was looking really closely  ). Then i tapped on the glass and the worm retracted ALL of the long tentacles!!! The worm was like a tan brown color. I couldn't see the end of the worm so i am assuming that it is pretty long. What in the world is this thing!? They should call it a medusa worm!

I also saw another worm. It was reallyy long. It was on the rockwork. I could see about 3 inches of it. It looked like a long whitish red centipede. No mantis eyes though. I still couldn't see the end of this thing!!! Wow... what in the world is in my tank?

Spaghetti Worm. They are good for your tank. They are detritivours. Reproduce fast.

Mine are yellow and black. Wait till you see one out side of the sand. It's pretty cool looking.

/agree with spaghetti worm. sounds exactly like it.

they're cool as heck. in my larger tank i used to have quite a few of them. i frequently observed the "web" being cast over the live rock and all kinds of unfortunate copepods met their doom on it.

yeah, i agree with the spag worm, being the one in the sand. The one on the rock sounds like a bristleworm, which is also beneficial to have. The common ones have red bodies with white britstles sticking out all over. Looks like a centipede, as you said

Haha, don't worry about it man. I know the feeling - everytime you see something new, you're going to think it's the weirdest thing you ever saw. When I first saw a shroom coral on my LR, it blew my mind.

Spaghetti worms...

They just sit in their burrows and eat stuff that happens to get caught up in the spaghetti. Occassionally they may relocate on the LR to a new hole a few inches away.
