wesley42079
I am looking to purchase a 40 gallon acrylic aquarium (36L x 15w x 16h). If I purchase a T5 ATI 36" 4x24 or Tek 6x36, will the light be too intense if I place the fixture directly over the aquarium? I am only stocking LPS and chalice's. I will try and hang the fixture. If you are just stocking LPS and chalices, I think a 4 bulb TEK would be fine. Link to comment
iDream
If only LPS and chalices then the tek 6-bulb is a tad overkill IMO, you could get away with a tek 4-bulb or the ATI, however you want to spend your money Link to comment
wesley42079
Thanks Dasani and iDream. Obviously hanging the fixture fixture would be better. Do any of you know the best height over the waters surface? Link to comment
iDream
A couple inches, around say... 6" above the height of the water or so? And so I make sure I clarify I'd definitely only get a 36" fixture (whether you choose Tek or ATI is up to you), not a 24" one. Link to comment

I think ATI claims that their fixtures produce more power and more PAR than other fixtures. Not sure if this is true, but they are defiantly nice. You may want to look into this if you decide to go with ATI so you will know how high to hang it. Link to comment
Asureef
ATI will definitely need to be hung. I have a 6 bulb 24" over my 40g, at 6" above water level, it bleached my acans and montiporas. I moved it back to 8-9" and will slowly acclimate back down. I choose 24" so I can have my zoas and lps on the edge. Link to comment
wesley42079
Asureef, thanks for the info. I didn't know that ATI fixtures were that strong. I currently don't have the means to hang a fixture, which is why I started this thread. Would a Tek 36" 4x36 with ATI bulbs be a better option? ATI will definitely need to be hung.
