Thrassian Atoll
I am making an acrylic/polycarbonate lid for my 29g Biocube with a laser and need some input. This lid will sit in the seam of plastic right inside of the top of the tank. It has a .5" area all the way around it, and the squares are .375". The picture shows the front of the lid where the glass bows. It is 4.5" long and the rest will be 12" long. I have already cut this out and it looks great, I am showing you this as a reference. I am making it in 2 pieces because I want to be able to lift part of the lid without having to take the whole thing off, and will have acrylic hinges attatching the 2 pieces. I have a picture of the rest but the program will not open on this computer. My question, is how should the rest look? As of right now, it looks like the picture, only a big square with with small squares cut throughout it. I know it is probably hard to picture, but should I leave a spot cut out in the middle because the metal halide would have nothing blocking it? Should I make a square in the middle for the same thing only not cut out? Should I make a cross in it that is .5"? Should I leave it exactly the same? I am just looking for a little input. I already have all the material and made the front, so I am already going to do this for sure. I want this because I would like to get a firefish and yasha and want to make sure they can not jump but still be open top. Will the squares be small enough, will this add more heat to the tank, and will this be fine for ph and gas exchange? Thanks Link to comment

Joe Dirt
I am going to be cutting the bottom out tomorrow probably and would like some feedback please If the HM has a layer of protection from splashing, then I would make the rest of it look exactly like the lid. I like the look of open tops, so to me the thinner the sections between the squares, the better. JMO though. Link to comment
Thrassian Atoll
My mh does have glass protecting it. I like open top too. Hopefully this will not take away from the clean open top look. The acrylic is .25" btw. So you think keeping the bottom looking like the top is the way to go CJ? Link to comment
Thrassian Atoll
Anybody else have any suggestions? Link to comment

I think I will keep it looking like the front, with just squares cut out through the entire thing. I am still wondering if this will be ok with heat, ph, cooling with my fan? Link to comment
