Sounds like a great day Stew! I think I'll be going out for the morning tide on saturday. I'm not sure about where I'll be going. The wife wants to make a beach day of it as well so we'll probably end up somewhere from Lincoln City to Newport. Any suggestions on a decent spot in that area???

Just got home. It was fantastic!!

I got tons and tons of brochures and magazines and stuff.

I saw 7 lectures and they really were incredible.

The first one was on Raja Ampat and it basically was all sorts of HD footage of reef life. It was awesome. They had tons of footage of cuttles, gobies, blennies, shrimp, mantis shrimp, scorps, tangs, parrotfishes, coral spawning, electric scallops, SO much more!

I saw a lecture on reef life in my area and how to add to a database. When I get SCUBA certified I'm taking part in the program.

The next lecture was on life under the Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach Florida. It was a long film with all macro videos of shrimp, gobies, jawfish, worms, crabs, etc. It was by Stan Waterman who made a lot of Jaws sequels.

The next three lectures were on sharks and were pretty great. Of course I would've prefered small reef life like before but this was cool too B)

The last one I saw was on a shipwreck and how he used a certain technique to photograph it.

Basically it was an awesome time!

Was at Looe Key last weekend with some friends. No photos (sorry) but if you live in Florida and haven't made it down to Big Pine, you owe yourself a trip. Just as stunning as usual! Saw everything from little cleaner shrimp to a reef shark, all in deep blue water with 60+ft vis. All in all a good time!

That's cool AM. Was it REEF with the survey you saw? They're a pretty cool organization, and I've been meaning to get into some of that surveying. They share their data base with NOAA, FWC, and multiple colleges across the state.

Went to a great beach today. It was too cold to go in but I stuck my eyes in the water with goggles. I'm so glad I went. I FINALLY found a Rock Gunnel! I've been looking for a long time and I finally saw it. It was only 2 inches and I didn't see it for very long but I now know they are there. Can't wait to get there again this summer!

Yep it was REEF.

I have been diving for over 10 years.... Technical diver (rebreather), photographer and PADI instructor. I have expensive hobbies.......

Snorkeled at the Tongalooma wrecks in Moreton Bay, Australia. Here is a short clip:

Currently in Bali and going to go diving. Has anyone on here been diving in Bali, and if so, any recommendations?

Well I just got back from Heron Island and it's like nothing I ever imagined, despite the photos above. The island is a Coral Cay, and at low tide you can literally wade out knee deep to the edge of the reef, the shallow area is full of corals, fish and clams (all Maximas I believe). We went on the boat a couple of times to the outer edges, saw all sorts of things including white and black tip sharks, turtles, rays (my wife saw a manta ray but I missed it). Mostly hard corals, acro galore. Here are a few of my fave pics:

Thought I would say I found 2 BREEDING pairs of lumpsuckers today while looking through tidepools. The female of one pair was 6.5 inches silver gray and was guarding 52 orange eggs. The eggs were stuck to the underside of a rock in a tidepool with a temperature of 59degrees. Male was also present but was only 2inches and brown red in color. The other pair I found the female was 4.5inches and gray brown in color. Male was red brown and this pair was getting ready to spawn (cleaning a rock together). I also found 4 others that I would think to be male or juviniles as they matched the discription of the above males.

I also was seeing lots of gunnels ranging from green to red to brown and from half inch up to abotu 8 inches.

I found two different coraline type algaes one was a branching and the other was encrusting.

I found a couple of iredesent orange sponges. They were encrusting type and very beatiful.

There were numerous kelp crabs, shore crabs, scuplins, and stars, but I thought the above was most interesting and thought I would share.

Also sorry for no pics, wasnt smart enough to bring a camera but will forsure next time which should be in 3-4 days.

All of this was found on Vancouver Island off the coast of British Columbia...In CANADA!

Ouh Ill play! I am unable to dive because of medical issues with my ears :( I cannot go deaper then about 5ft of water. But I love to snorkel. I have only been to florida reefs but have seen some beautiful things. We went a lot when I was younger and never really had a camera to take pictures.

Here are some from my last trip to key west. Key west is not really the best place to snorkel the reefs have been wrecked horribly by hungover people standing on the reef and such.

We went down for basically a drinking/eating weekend (cuz really why else do people go to key west there is no beaches!)

And the second day we decided to go snorkeling. It was a horrible day a storm came throught the night before and the water looked like my tank does right after a water change. But this time I had a camera! A cheap ass disposable but I saw some pretty cool things!

I'm in Antigua from 11th-21st August, found Indigo Divers who seem professionally run as a company judging by their website and communications:

www.indigo-divers.com

Cades reef seems to be the place to go.

Does anyone have any experience diving there and tips on where the best spots are?
