ElectroTT
so heres my question. a pretty dumb one but oh well . how far down should the collection cup be in on a cpr bakpak? once in awhile i will see collectin a lil gunk but i know that it can do better. wayyy better. im usin a maxi jet 900 with the airpump and airline tube in the powerhead intake for more bubbles but the collection cup doesnt seem to be collectin much. the bottom of the collection cup sits right on top of the water level inside the chamber. should the cup be deeper in the water? if so by how much? thanks. cowboy
I have 2 tanks and both of them have CPRs on them. I played around with my collection cup for a couple of weeks and like mine the best pushed almost as far down as it will go. I have to empty the cup about once a week on each tank. The color of the gunk is a real nasty brown/yellow/ lets just say it looks ugly. I am running the original pumps on mine. So far no problems with them. Hope that helps. Link to comment
mogurnda
The bottom of my collection cup is about 1/4" into the foamy water at the top of the column. If you're not getting much skimmate, it may be worth cleaning the venturi. Salt crust can cut efficiency by a lot. Link to comment
WhiteRat
I just measured mine and it's lid is 2-1/8" above the gasket, so I'd say it is pretty high in there. I accumulate skimmate slowly and it's a very dry, thick skimmate, looks like too-thick instant hot chocolate but sure doesn't smell like it!!! IMHO, that sort of skimmate is optimal. Too wet and you have to top off your tank too much. YMMV. Good luck! Ratty Ratty's Reef Link to comment
