 lol toilet paper

incredible tank! I disagree with you though--I dont think this is too far off from a totm :)

+1 moar pichurs!

I should be picking up some new frags of SPS tonight and maybe a new frogspawn

Ill post some photos of the new stuff ASAP

lol you noticed the toilet paper

I had a bad cold and needed to often to keep going to the bathroom

sweet setup.how much did it cost to build the tank ? I would love to replace my 29gallon freshwater with a shallow saltwater tank.

thanks chilled_fire. The tank alone was about 125$

If your thinking about setting up a salt water system though there are a lot of other cost to consider; just keep that in mind. Best of luck :)

Simple FTW!

:) still a lot to simplify! to many wires and to much out in the open = need to hide clean up outside the tank badly

I still love seeing this setup. It's so clean.

Thanks ayobreezie - It doesn't look so clean right now

I usually only post the best photos and only when the tank is sparkling i.e. after water changes / glass cleaning / sand changing

entire floor is covered with frags right now and I"m in the middle of changing all the sand

how long does it take you to change the sand? I havent really heard of people doing that

about 10 extra minutes

Usually every 4-5 weeks I siphon the sand during a water change

I just add new water and new sand

Doesn't really take much longer than a regular water change

I do it for a couple reasons:

I like the look of a thin sand bed and keeps it looking pristine

I get redish algae growing after a while - prob because I over feed my fish and not enough flow on the sand bed

I can't manage to get flow on the sand without it blowing everywhere so I just change it

how do you go about adding it to your tank? just dump fresh dry sand into it? seems like you would get a flurry...

seems like it's working quite well

I basically slowly just pout a thin layer of sand from a small bag with all pumps off

Surprisingly, it just sinks to the bottom = no real cloudiness or mess

I guess its a PITA but it keeps it looking super white and fresh.

My fish and effing snails are poo machines and I can't keep up with them in any other way

Blue corals are always cool looking IMO. I'd like to set up a small tank with just blue & purple corals and fish. Hmmmmm :ninja:

Looks very nice. It reminds me a lot of my old shallow tank.

It's hard to tell on the green acro there because of lighting. At first I thought maybe a hydnophora grandis like this link.

http://jumboag.com/hydnophora.html

It also reminds me a bit of an old school green slimer (not the typical slimer you see all the time). It has more polyps like a montipora. Here is what I'm talking about just under T5 lighitng.

Looking good though. Keep it up.
