Aggie05
So I am thinking about jumping on the SPS bandwagon and have some questions. First, this will be on a 10 gallon with a 70 watt MH and 32 PC actinic lighing. I plan on running a overflow to a sump with a mag 3 for return through a SCWD. My questions are, what size bulkheads should I use? Also, will the mag 3 provided enough flow for SPS? And lastly, this isn't really a DIY question, but the current resident in the 10 are two firefish, will they be ok with heavier flow? Edit: I also forgot to ask if using an overflow like a pet store uses would be ok. I don't want to have a standpipe so I was thinking of having an overflow near the top of the tank with a pvc elbow for it to overflow into. Is this noisy, because it will be in my room. SDMike
SCWDs take 3/4" tubing so I'd plumb everthing up to and past that with that size. Having said that, I put a MAG7 on my 29 with 3/4" tubing up to a set of arms with 3 90 elbows (so the arm hangs over the tank lip) going to 1/2" LocLine. Seemed to do great. Put the same pump and setup on my new 40L, but changed to 3/4" LocLine and the water just dribbled out. Not very good for flow... If you thing a MAG3 will be sufficient flow without the SCWD, I'd bump it up one size to make up for the flow losses from the SCWD. Hopefully you have someone close that has a spare MAG3/5 to test your setup... I just noticed I didn't answer your specific question, but hope I still helped. Mke Link to comment
