Euphyllia
Ok, ths has gone on long enough. First off, listen to Dnuts. You have supportive parents. You may not think so, but you do. Second, WTH does it matter if you do? Who cares who flames you? Do it right and prove all who doubted wrong. Third, as far as AIO's go. Nano Cubes are probably the best AIO's to buy, IMO. Easiest to mod, most available parts for. Go with the Quad NC. Upgrade the lights and pumps down the road. You don't even need to break the tank down to do either of those upgrades. +1 Link to comment
Squared
but wouldn't it be more expensive to upgrade later? Link to comment

RayWhisperer
Colors were very nice. I took those pics with the flash. It washed out all the color. FWIW, Fab, that hammer was not bleached. It was pretty much the same color as the frog spawn. They both looked ####. Edit; #### is blocked.... They both looked boobs. That'll give you the idea. Link to comment
Squared
in my stock nc, i did get very nice color. even with a slimer acro. Link to comment
animalmaster6
Now any more tips for the planning stage ? Wait weeks to a month before adding any life. You need to let it cycle. After a few weeks test it and if params are good add a small amount of your clean up crew (there won't be much algae at first, there will be when food, fish, corals, are added). Link to comment

Squared
It was under my 12g NC 48w PC. it had a good amount of growth for a while, and it didn't loose its color. But eventually polyp extension was very little, but it kept growing and kept it's color. I ended up giving it away because I could not keep my water clean enough. Had algea problems then too. RayWhisperer
Wow. Very nice. I bet the color would be way better under some good t5s or mh.Squared, something else I forgot to mention. T-5's were just starting to trickle in from Europe at the time of that tank. So, I don't think there were even T-5's that would have fit that tank. Not to mention, it would have cost me thousands of dollars at that point. MH could have been done. I actually did a diy 150 watt MH in the hood of an NC 12. However, alas, at that time I was very poor. Mostly because of those two tanks I posted. Link to comment
bitts
I use to do clams & sps under pc so it can be done but theres much better tec out there now. first step before you do anything else, plan the tank. not what brand of tank you want. what do you want out of the tank. whats the most important fish, coral & invert you want to keep. tell us those 3 before doing anything else. So if I say I really want to have a goby, a pair of clowns, and a Blenny. And for corals if I say I want zoos, palys, frogspawn, acan. And for inverts I want a Pistol shrimp, skunk cleaner shrimp, and a feather duster. What tank would you buy? Link to comment
dickie52
I won't argue with Ray, cause we think along the same lines, BUT. I say start just a little smaller and the NC6 just is a little short on light. Being you are young on a limited budget, I would go with the Stock, 8 gallon Biocube, cause it will give you over four watts per gallon, cost much less to start and stock. I like to look at it as getting your feet wet! Stay with the softies and sit back and enjoy. There are just enough mods to keep you busy if you like. This hobby can hurt your pocketbook in a hurry! Just give it some thought. here is a NC6 and I wish I had more light. Link to comment
Mini-Dude
I have a way to get the money I was jst wondering if ev eryone now supports the "As big as you can get rule"? Money is just a small issue. I get $6 in allowance each week and money on the holidays. I really want my pair of B&W Ocs's they are so pretty. Me and my dad love them. If I go with a smaller tank like the 6 or 12 I wouldnt be able to fulfill my stocking plans. How much PAR does the stock BC8 give out? Link to comment

Given your noobness, I'd get the tank you are looking at. Then upgrade slowly as time goes on and you learn more about proper husbandry. It's not a bad tank. IMO you can make a better tank of the same size for cheaper, but it requires some DIY skills and a better foundation of knowledge than you have at the moment. FWIW, I started with a BC14 and loved it. Modding AIOs can be pretty fun, and easy with all the options out there now. Smart parents to force you to move slow and make sure you're going to stick with the hobby, imo. I don't support the as big as you can rule. I feel that even a noob can learn how to do water changes and move slow enough to not crash a tank. Plus, even the best reefers I've known have had tank crashes - it really sucks when it's a 180g instead of a 10g. You'll be pleased with the 29g. Link to comment

Deleted User 6
Why don't you break down/sell off your FW setups. If you're not careful, you'll be like Dickie and his wall of tanks...crazy tank lady, that Dickie. Link to comment
Mini-Dude
Awwww I like my FW tanks but I know what your saying. How much do you think I could get out of a Marina 10 g Kit and the stuff in it in my OP? I keeping my Chi. Its my baby. Link to comment
Deleted User 6
No clue, but not much probably. What it would do is prove to your parents that you are responsible and serious about the hobby. Plus it will give you less stress. Link to comment
Mini-Dude
Yeah I would then have 3 tanks, FW5, FW10, and SW28. Thats a lot. I bet it would be hard to matinence? I will consider it. Link to comment
