questions about power supply

So I have my supplies for my Fluval Spec to upgrade the lighting, 2 RB Cree XP-E and 1 CW XP-E, 1000ma buckpuck with dimming & pot and one laptop power supply.

 

So I have a really silly question, being not of the electrical minded type. I have a good friend who's a journeyman to help me but I really want to try this on my own.

 

I took the power supply apart, just cracking open the seal and black box and cut the wire for the laptop connection (the DC end I guess) and left the AC end alone. After I wire my buckpuck do I wire the applicable wires directly to the DC portion wires of the power supply? I'm a little confused because while I can find reference to people using laptop power adaptors, I haven't actually found pictures of what they did.

well, you went a little further than most people by breaking the brick open, but find the spots where the wires connected and solder the wire or puck leads. (one or the other, the puck has wires for the power supply side and wires for the led side)
