Alkamist
very nice i like the rock work.... but yeah feed those shrimp! they leave everything alone, use a turkey baster to shoot some food to where they are i do that with my coral banded Link to comment
SpringFever
Astrena Stars (sp?) eat my GSP. I don't complain because I hate the stuff - Happy wife = happy life... might not be the Pep shrimp. I wouldn't go through the trouble of spot feeding them. They are crazy good at finding every last crumb. I would just drop a few sinking pellets in every other day and call it good. Link to comment
inferno2113
Well I've been trying to spot feed the pepps for a while but they are still going after my corals. They totally ruined one of my frogspawn heads. As soon as I saw that I set up a trap and just put them in the fuge. I'm not going to turn this into a bad experience because I know that sometimes we get good inverts and sometimes bad. Let's just hope everything else from now on is good. On another note the GSP is looking awesome. And here's a nice vid of it. The good heads of frogspawn that are left. So yesterday I picked up some fish. A true perc pair, and a Yellow Watchman Goby. Acclimated them and put them in. The Percs were fine and started eating my pods off the wall. They Tried hosting the GSP but gave up after it just closed up lol. Unfortunately when I woke up in the morning the YWG was dead. He was active the night before swimming and looking for a place to call home. Maybe he was a victim of the MP10. Going to do a water change today or tomorrow. Link to comment
mygolfisslow
RIP you YWG Mp10 vs fish. The mp10 almost always wins Link to comment
inferno2113
Yeah. But we need to keep moving on. In the spirit of the YWG I got a Sleeper Goby and 3 chromies. Let's hope they are there tomorrow morning. Did my water change and everything seems to be looking good. Going to go to a local reefer meet this coming weekend. Here's hoping for some good stuff Link to comment
inferno2113
Still smooth sailing. Fish are all alive and looking good. Still have small algae blooms on the glass but it grows SUPER slow, so by the end of the week for my water changes I can scrape it all up and then suction it out. I think it might be bryopsis since it doesn't grow like hair algae, but looks like small fern plants. Still nothing is growing on the rocks so I am fine with it for now. Then the frogspawn started splitting its big head. The only thing I never see it do though is throw out any tentacles. Only thing I have changed is that I have decided to leave the fuge light on 24/7. Any reason not to? Here are pics of the new guys. Sleeper goby 2 out of the 3 Chromis Also picked up a piece of this platygyra which I thought looked awesome and just needed to have. Then there is the porcelain crab who has started to get some weird markings on his shell. Anyone have an explanation for it? Here's a and here is a FTS 3/21/2011 Link to comment
inferno2113
This week has not been that eventful but I think things are doing great. A lot of the bryopsis type algae has gone and in its place has been the standard dirty brown glass film. But it's better than anything hairy and green When I purchased the Sleeper headed Goby he didn't have any yellow around hes head. But I am glad to say that it is starting to come in. And he is looking awesome! Although he did get a lot of sand on that closed brain so I just moved it up to the rockwork. Clowns are doing great and one of them decided to start hosting my GPS. Not my first choice but when limited in options, you gotta work with what you got lol. The chromies were doing good they decimated my copepod outbreak. Around wednesday one of them started looking a bit sick. No heavy breathing, just low activity not swimming as much and staying to himself. I checked him out and didn't see any markings or anything else that might point to signs of a disease. Thursday morning he has passed and was stuck on the MP10. One thing that totally forgot to do was put a DSB in my Refug! Is ok to still put one in or is it to late and might start another cycle? O. and tomorrow is going to be a local club meet! So hopefully I will come back from that with a few frags Thanks for following along. Link to comment

inferno2113
Time for a picture update! Picked up a few things from my local reef club last weekend. ORA Birdsnest ( won it in a raffle ) Green Slimer Green Pocillopora Pink and purple birdsnest Hairy Shrooms the big one is already splitting then a local guy was taking down his tank so I picked these guys up for cheap. Both Favia I think but if I'm wrong please let me know lol. The Zoas on the GSP have also gotten bigger. Any ID on these? Neon green mouths brown skirts. I don't know why but my GSP hasn't opened in 5 days. I'm starting to worry about it. It was getting walked on alot by some hermits and was semi closing but then it just closed up and hasn't opened yet. I'm hoping it will open back up soon. FYI - All my pictures are full size but the forums scale it down. If you ever want to see it's original size just right-click on it and click "View Picture" and you can get the full HD pic. They look way better and get more detail Also heading to MAX http://www.marineaquariumexpo.com/ this weekend. Might come back with some new stuff. So another update maybe coming soon Link to comment
Coastie
I love that pink and purple birdsnest! Oh and as for the spots on the porcelain crab, mine did that before it was about to molt. I think it was algae starting to form on it's shell. Link to comment
inferno2113
I love that pink and purple birdsnest! Oh and as for the spots on the porcelain crab, mine did that before it was about to molt. I think it was algae starting to form on it's shell. Ya it is nice. It has a patch with no polyps on it tho because it had some sort of stringy thing sticking out and stunted the growth of polyps there. But not a bad piece for $3 Ya that's what I was thinking and I found it out the funny way. He did molt a while ago and the day he did I was at the DMV and while I was waiting for my number to be called my phone rings. and my GF sounds sad and tells me that the porcelain crab died. I was like "WHAT? Make sure its really dead". So she poked it with our turkey baster and assured me it was dead. So I made her take out the carcass so it wouldn't foul the water up. As soon as she did that she let out a scream and told me he started twitching. I was laughing so bad at this point and told her that it was just the the water from the power head that made it move. So then she took it out and buried him out in the front of the house. So I go on with my day and when I get home I take a look at my tank and the damn porcelain was ain the same spot he was when I last saw him in the morning lol. When I pointed him out to my GF she was shocked and jokingly said it was his zombie lol. This is what I was able to get at the expo on Saturday. They had a ton of different type of corals. I just couldn't man up and spend that much money on some corals lol. So I got a Red Monti Cap for $10 and a small standard Zoa Colony for $5. The GSP has opened back up. although it looks like it's a bit rigid, not swaying as much as it used to. Everything else has been getting good growth. My refuge has starting getting these small fan worms on the walls don't know if its any good to keep them. I'm leaving them alone for now. Also had some growing on my DT back wall but I kinda scrubbed those off when I was cleaning the algae back there. I'm still wondering if I can add sand in the refuge still. I know I cant add any bagged live sand as it might create another cycle. But maybe I can find a LFS that has some LS that's ready to go. Or just buy some regular non live, wash it out, and let it get seeded over time. Link to comment
Coastie
That's a funny ass story about the crab, can't believe she burried it haha. Im so jealous of the prices of your frags. That monti cap would easily cost $25 here. And those zoas probably at least $15, though probably more like $20. Link to comment
inferno2113
Ya I try not to buy corals at a LFS because they are overpriced. The only LFS corals are the Frogspawn and the GSP and the Platygyra. The rest are frags that I got cheap at my local club and the MAX event. All pics are under actinics Favias Yellow headed sleeper goby now with more yellow head Then I keep forgetting to post this guy. Definitely need an ID on it. Its brown right now because the guy I got it from had him in a bin with insufficient lighting. But it has some awesome tiny blue polyps under regular lights and they look pink under actinics I'm hoping to bring it back to its full glory. And then here is a trying to defend its food from some nass snals and a hermit. One of the nass got stung a while before it gave up. Then the hermit came and outsmarted them all with the long reach of his claws lol. The platygyra ate about 3 other mysis before they came and messed with him though so im sure he was nice and stuffed. Then the clown got a last minute video bomb in lol. And here's a Link to comment
Coastie
Looks cool, don't know what it is but I wish I had one. Link to comment
inferno2113
This one is another piece he gave me that wasn't looking too good. Tips are getting some blue color back and there is some polyp extension. I hope I can bring it back to its full potential. Link to comment
inferno2113
Nothing new to update other than things are growing lol. And something new that started growing were some blue clove polyps on the rock with the 2 favias. The guy who gave them to me did say it might have some but none were visible at the time. I have heard of these taking over a tank but I don't think I will mind them. What do you guys think? If I do decide do remove the rock with them I will have to detach the favias. Link to comment
